Speaking on WHO’s celebrity podcast, WHO ARE YOU, the star revealed that he likely contracted a dangerous viral brain condition after high-fiving young fans.

‘I got viral meningitis, which the doctors say I probably got from the audience, high-fiving children and not using the hand sanitiser,’ Anthony revealed on the podcast.

‘That was dreadful. It was 2-3 years ago, and now I’ve just started getting back into exercise.

‘It really laid me low.’

It was another struggle for Anthony, who has for years battled the effects of anxiety and depression. The star says that he’s convinced his problem is a physical one, as his lows don’t necessarily coincide with stress or hard times.

His anxiety has in the past manifested in cripplingly negative thoughts and anxiety attacks.

‘If there’s a big wave at the beach, I’d seriously think everyone’s going to get killed,’ he says. ‘Crazy stuff like that; if there’s any bump on the plane I’m sure it’s going to go down.

‘I’ve been on the Westgate Bridge, I was driving the car and had an anxiety attack where the bridge was rocking and it was going to fall.

‘I stopped the car in the middle of the bridge. I was frozen with fear. That’s how bad it was. ‘

Things are on the up now, with Anthony learning to manage the tendency through a combination of medication, sessions with a therapist, dietary changes, exercise and even hypnotherapy.
