EXCLUSIVE: The Bachelor’s Simone on why she lied to Matty J

The eliminated contestant opens up to WHO about her time on the show and finding love.
Channel 10

The Bachelor’s Simone Ormesher made it to the top eight without scoring a single date with Matty J, and she’s still not sure why. The 25-year-old spoke to WHO about not getting to know Matty J, why she lied to him and how front-runner Laura Byrne knew him before the show.

WHO: How are you feeling after last night’s episode?

SIMONE ORMESHER: I’m really good actually. Sad that’s it over but I feel good.

WHO: Were your surprised at how long you did stay in the house without getting a single date with Matty?

SIMONE: 100 per cent. Every single week I thought I was going, so it’s really strange how I was kept there so long.

WHO: Why do you think that is? Do you think that he would have asked you out eventually?

SIMONE: I have no idea. Was it because I was entertaining, I don’t know. That’s what it came down to at the end for me, because there’s no reason why.

WHO: Do you think that things would have been different if he did give you a chance early on?

SIMONE: Yeah, I mean, there wasn’t that initial spark with us. It’s a very awkward situation to get to know somebody. I think if it was on our own on a single date, you’ve got all day with the guy.

WHO: Did you ever consider leaving like Jen did? She didn’t get a single date either and she decided to leave.

SIMONE: Yeah look, there were so many times I wanted to leave. But I just thought I’m not going to quit and walk out. He can get rid of me himself. I didn’t want to leave and have quit the show.

WHO: Obviously you didn’t leave with the man, but have you kept in touch with the other girls?

SIMONE: The house was amazing, we’re all friends. I’m very close to Cobie. She’s an angel. I’ve made some really good friendships out of it.

WHO: Last night showed the childhood memories group date, and your mum had given Matty a pair of ballet shoes (see below) which you had no idea about and made up a story about. Why did you lie about the shoes?

SIMONE: My mum didn’t send them in, they were a prop. I didn’t want to make him feel real uncomfortable so I just went along with it. You didn’t see it, but at the cocktail party I actually sat him down and told him, but they didn’t show that. I told him that it was a lie.

WHO: What did he say to that?

SIMONE: He just laughed. It was really light-hearted, it was nothing serious. I just think the whole thing was really intense, and to be honest, I didn’t really care at that point because I don’t know him.

WHO: Do you feel like you were more mates than anything else?

SIMONE: Yeah. He’s a lovely guy, but I still didn’t know him, I don’t know anything about him. It was just so weird, I was there so long.

WHO: You didn’t have a spark with him, but who do you think had the biggest connection with Matty?

SIMONE: I reckon Laura. I think Laura from the beginning, they seem like the same person, they’re from the same area. It just fits.

WHO: Laura has since admitted that she knew him before the show but didn’t speak to him. Did you and the other girls know this whilst in the Bachelor mansion?

SIMONE: Yep.

WHO: You did?

SIMONE: Yeah, I think they went to the same gym and things like that. So she’s seen him around and I think she’s followed him on Instagram as well before it.

WHO: Who do you think will win?

SIMONE: Laura for sure.

WHO: Elise is getting more time with Matty. Do you think that she has a chance to win?

SIMONE: Not really. I love Elise, but I think she’s been played a little bit as the dark horse. She’s come out of nowhere it was really late on in the show. Like it was me and her, sat together getting nothing, and all of a sudden she’s there. She’s so lovely but I think she’s being played a little.

WHO: Are you still single?

SIMONE: Yep, unfortunately!

WHO: Are you looking for someone?

SIMONE: I think if you look you just don’t find. I really, really do want to meet someone though. I’ve not got much family here so I would like someone in my life but it’s just really hard out there.

WHO: Would you ever consider dating a past Bachelorette contestant?

SIMONE: They’re all good looking guy, but I don’t know any of them. It sounds easy enough, you go on the show, hook up, but I don’t know any of them.

The Bachelor airs on Channel 10 on Wednesday and Thursday nights.
