Back With The Ex follows four couples who are taking the ultimate plunge by reuniting after years apart in order to see if their previous lovers were in fact ‘The One’.
High school sweethearts – Cam & Kate
They were still in school when they first started dating but, three years into their relationship, an indiscretion tore them apart. Now, Kate, 22, is ready to reclaim her ex-boyfriend. “I’ve never met anyone that I feel more at home with,” Kate says. Cam, 24, who admits he has been thinking about Kate, says their pairing clicked once “because we were the biggest dorks but were so comfortable with each other.”
Long-distance lovers – Peter & Diane
Sydney-based Peter, 57, and US-based Diane, 50, tried dating long-distance for nearly two years before their relationship fizzled. After both of their marriages ended in divorce, Peter decided to try his luck with Diane once more, 28 years after they last saw each other in person. “From the first moment our eyes met in a New Orleans pub way back in 1988, it was her radiant smile that simply grabbed me and drew me in inexorably,” Peter tells WHO. Adds Diane, “When we were dating, there was no internet and phone calls were very expensive. It was hard wanting to be with each other.”
Worlds apart – Jeremy & Meg
Their seven-year relationship had its fair share of ups and downs and when things started to go south, Jeremy abruptly called it quits before moving overseas to London. Four years later, Jeremy, 28, is back in Australia and says that Meg is “everything I want in a girl.” He adds, “dating Meg was like dating one of my good friends. She made me feel loved.” Meg, 26, however, was shocked that Jeremy wanted to give it another go, conceding to WHO, “I didn’t think he still thought about me.” And while she is keen to try again and doesn’t think he will flee this time around, she concedes she has her reservations. “My biggest fear would be that Jeremy would hurt me again,” she says.
Tales of trust – Erik & Lauren
They broke up six times during their six-year relationship before Erik ended it for the final time via text message. But six years later, Erik, 32, is ready to commit to Lauren. “I’ve changed in many ways,” Erik tells WHO, admitting, “If I met myself back then today, I would kick my own ass.” Lauren, 36, is willing to give Erik another go but warns, “We surely won’t work if he is still the same guy he was.”
