With the show nearly at the pointy end, George said the beauties and the geeks rarely spoke about the $100,000 prize money.

“The prize money was never a big thing to anyone it didn’t feel like a competition… it’s never about the money,” he exclusively told WHO.

“Not until we were really right down to the wire did I hear anyone talking about it.”

In addition to shaving his beard, the 27-year-old replaced his daggy clothes with a more fashion-forward look.

“I was incredibly happy with it! I was the only one left that had a big beard it felt like I was actually revealing my face again. Which is strange to say because I know what I look like without a beard, but it was more symbolic,” he said.

“It was a change of confidence and personal growth and feeling more happy about myself.

“I have someone as beautiful as Josie and how could I possibly not try and look my best for her too? And clearly she liked it.”

George has maintained his manicured new appearance and vowed to never let his beard get unruly again.

“I’m actually going to keep it shaved, maybe a bit of stubble and if I need to I’ll grow it a bit more to maintain a Kiran jawline,” he laughed. “But in general I feel like it’s more me without the beard.”

When asked If his relationship with Josie has continued outside of the show, George remained tight-lipped.

“Unfortunately I’m not allowed to say. All I can really say is we are definitely still close,” he teased.

“I felt comfortable with her even though we’re so opposite. She was still interested in things I was talking about like Bruce Lee.

“Instead of just glazing over and pretending to pay attention she was actually interested and asked questions.”

George said his connection with Josie formed during their conversation at the book week mixer in the second week.

“We spoke about how we are both so built up and have these walls up and struggle to show vulnerability on things. We really connected that night and started to grow closer and closer,” he said.

In the lead up to their romance, Josie dropped several hints urging George to kiss her. But it appeared George didn’t pick up on the 20-year-old’s signs.

“The show makes it seem like I missed hints but on the day it definitely didn’t feel like the right time,” he said.

“I wasn’t immediately thinking I should just go for it. But that also could be because Josie is so nice so I felt so comfortable with her and didn’t feel the need to.”

George said after sharing a kiss with Josie during last week’s date the pair were able to break through “another threshold” and feel even closer to each other.

“It was something we knew we both wanted and it did come down to timing. I’m so glad Josie just went for it because who knows how long it could’ve taken me,” he laughed.

“Since then I felt incredible and like I was on top of the world. I felt more and more able to admit my feelings to her and more able to be myself about her because I knew she really did like me. It feels incredibly to know a girl as amazing as josie was into me.

“I’ve been pretty upfront about my past [and acting experience] from the beginning. Other than that it’s really just been people thinking what they want to think,” he said.

George said he applied for the social experiment for “personal growth” and said the “sink or swim” experience helped with his mental health struggles.

“I didn’t feel like I really knew who I was and going on the show and it very much became ‘I need to work out who I am’ and it would force it out of me,” he said.

“I one hundred per cent feel like the show was a huge success for me. I feel so much more confident and happy about myself.

“I struggled with a lot of different mental illnesses and things and those struggles have been getting so much better since that.”

George also revealed he wished the show focused more on the beauties and their personal development.

“With this whole series people have been so focused on the geeks themselves but I really want to give credit to the beauties,” he said.

“A lot of them have really put themselves out there and done so much to help us grow.

“They deserve so much more credit than they’re getting and they’re all there for the right reasons.”
