Former Bachelorette Elly Miles has opened up about her intense struggle with anxiety following her time on the show.
In a sit-down chat with model Tegan Martin, the 26-year-old revealed how exercise made her feel like herself again after her time on TV.
“I would wake up every day and just feel like there was a hand around my throat, and I’ve never had issues with anxiety in the past before,” she revealed.
“To have such an intense physical symptom of anxiety was just really scary to me, and really overwhelming, and I’d wake up every day … and it would just instantly hit me.”
Elly also spoke of her post-show troubles in a chat with WHO earlier this year.
“While The Bachelorette was on TV, I was just so stressed. There was so much media involvement – it was really overwhelming. When the show was on, I avoided going out in public,” she explained.
“I’m really proactive with taking care of myself, and really self-aware, so when I know that something’s off for me, I’m like ‘I’m a happy girl, I need to fix this.’”
She said that her gym began to feel like a family, and she would go every day in order to manage her symptoms of anxiety.
Elly was the 2020 Bachelorette alongside her older sister, Becky.
Neither were particularly successful at finding love via the show, but now seem to live very happy lives.
While Becky’s winner, Pete Mann, broke up with her just days after the finale was filmed, she has since moved on with boyfriend James Bevitron.
Elly and her winner, Frazer Neate, broke up about a month after the show aired.
“I don’t even know if I’d call it a relationship,” she revealed on a podcast in April.
“I had the highest hopes, I was very naive, and I guess caught up in hoping the best for the situation.”
However, Elly has no regrets about going on the show.
“I definitely don’t regret doing it. I’ve learned so much about myself. When you’ve gone through a tough or stressful time, it helps you grow and I’m proud of how Becky and I conducted ourselves,” she told WHO.
