For Codie Lea, 21, and Nathan, 25, his mother Laurelle can’t stand her and believes she’s taken her son and granddaughter away from her.
“Codie Lea is a plastic barbie girl and I don’t think she’s human. Everything about her is false. Fake boobs, fake hair, fake eyelashes, fake lips,” says Mount Isa single mother Laurelle. “Codie Lea has taken my son and my granddaughter away and if she was on fire, I wouldn’t even spit on her.”

Although Laurell wants her out of her son’s life for good, they’re madly in love.
“The person who doesn’t support our relationship would be my mother. I think she is going to do everything in her power to make sure it doesn’t happen because she absolutely hates Codie Lea,” Nathan said.
“Codie Lea is always happy, always smiling and the way she shows love to our daughter is just beautiful,” says Nathan. “I’ve loved Codie since the first day I met her. It’s made me a better man being with her and I just love how beautiful she is.”
The animosity stems from an incident when a panicked Codie Lea woke to find a then three-week-old Starr-Armani missing from her home. Laurelle, who had been asked by Nathan to babysit, had taken their unvaccinated daughter shopping.
“Not only have I not received an apology from her, she’s actively tried to make my life a lot harder,” says Codie Lea
of the pivotal moment.
One of six children, Nathan— who now calls his mother by her first name— says he wants an end to the conflict and would love to call her ‘mum’ again, but more importantly, have her attend their wedding day.
“I want my mum to accept our relationship, because right now we don’t have a relationship with her. She doesn’t have a relationship with Starr-Armani, and we don’t want that for our daughter growing up.”
