Tonight, Australians will finally get a glimpse of the New York Times documentary Framing Britney Spears when it drops locally on Channel Nine.

The eye-opening documentary caused a stir overseas last month when it shined a light on the controversial questions some media has asked over the years as well as some of the seemingly unfair criticism she’s been subjected to over the years.
It wasn’t just the US press who were notorious for prying into her personal life, and among the problematic interviews featured was one that hit close to home.
In 2001, A Current Affair’s Mike Munro chatted to the Baby…One More Time hitmaker, with his Australian interview resurfacing for all the wrong reasons.
Aged just 19 at the time, Britney was grilled by the veteran journalist – then 48 – about why she was putting on raunchy performances despite being a self-proclaimed virgin.
“To many, you are a contradiction. On the one hand you’re a sweet, innocent virginal type. On the other hand you’re a sexy vamp in underwear,” he said to her.
Britney responded: “I wouldn’t say ‘in underwear’.”
Mike went on to remind the popstar she had recently posed in underwear on the cover of Rolling Stone.
“On the cover of Rolling Stone, that was the only time. But not when I perform, no,” Britney replied in defence.
Doubling down, Mike shot back: “Well, you can see what I’m getting at.”
The interview was just one of many under scrutiny in Framing Britney Spears, which also sees her grilled about her breast size, seemingly blamed for her failed relationship with Justin Timberlake and had her parenting style mocked.
Framing Britney Spears was produced by The New York Times and comes off the back of the wild #FreeBritney movement that made headlines last year.
The situation is severely complex but stems from the conservatorship Britney has been placed under.
A conservatorship is a legal concept that sees the appointment of a guardian to manage the financial affairs and/or daily life of another when they are deemed mentally and physically incapable.
Usually this is done for the elderly, not international pop stars.
Britney has been under conservatorship of her father Jamie Spears for a number of years.
Matters came to a head recently thanks to a group of fans called the #FreeBritney community who believe the pop star is being held under the agreement unfairly.
Late last year Britney tried to have the conservatorship overruled by a judge but she ultimately lost her court battle.
During the proceedings Britney revealed she was “afraid” of her father, who had control of her entire estate and career decisions.
This is where the documentary comes in, covering not only the #FreeBritney movement but her entire rise to fame and subsequent downfall.
Framing Britney Spears airs Tuesday March 2 at 9pm on Channel Nine
