Reality TV fans rejoiced on Thursday morning when fan favourite Brooke Blurton was announced as the 2021 Bachelorette.
The 26-year-old Noongar-Yamatji woman first rose to fame on Nick ‘Honey Badger’ Cummins’ Bachelor season as well as the second season of Bachelor in Paradise back in 2019.
“I’m ready, I hope you are too!” Brooke wrote on Instagram, confirming the news.
Needless to say ex contestants and fans are thrilled to finally see some diversity.
“THE BEST NEWS I HAVE EVER HEARD,” season seven runner-up Abbie Chatfield wrote on Instagram.
Along with BIP‘s Renee Barrett, Brooke’s name was one of the hot contenders to be this year’s Bachelorette but a clue from earlier this year was right under our nose.
Back in February, Brooke shared a photo of herself celebrating the precursor to the most romantic day of the year.
“Happy pre V DAY,” the Bachie star captioned a photo of herself holding a rose and smiling into the distance.
In fact, fans even hinted at her now confirmed TV role.
“The new Bachelorette??? Bloody hope so!!!” one exclaimed.
“You would make the perfect @bacheloretteau,” another stated.
In another post shared later that month that appears to have been taken on the same day, Brooke dropped in another classic Bachie phrase when she announced that she was moving from her Perth home to the Victorian capital.
“It’s true. @gebsworth.com.au accepted my rose 🌹 and now I’m moving to Melbourne to be closer to her,” she captioned the snap of herself and friend, Gabrielle Ebsworth.
Right under our noses!
Brooke made it to Nick Cummins’ top three and was a favourite to win and previously told WHO that her decision was hers alone.
“I had my date with Nick, I slept on it, and then the Rose Ceremony was the next day,” she explained in 2019.
“I really do analyse things and in a way, you have to be selfish. I won’t go into too much, but I would say the decision to leave was definitely mine. I can’t say that they didn’t try persuade me to stay.”
Since then, she’s been romantically linked to Alex Nation, ex boyfriend Nick Power and was even rumoured to be dating musician G Flip, though the latter are just friends.
In September last year, Brooke confessed that she wouldn’t be opposed to being the Bachelorette if the position was offered to her.
“I don’t know, I’d be very open to it,” she mused on The Babble podcast with Matty J and Ruby Teys.
“I’m a little bit different in the sense that I date both sexes and whether Channel Ten and Warner Brothers would be up to a sort-of bi Bachelorette, I don’t know what they would that look like or if Australia would be ready for that.
“My followers have definitely been very vocal about their needs – they want a person of colour or a woman of colour to be in those positions.”
