Usually quite private about his son Brando, Barry Keoghan has had enough of the negativity surrounding his parenting.
While speaking on The Louis Theroux Podcast he said, “Of course, it’s going to affect me being a father when I had no blueprint to take from.”
Having had no relationship with his own father, Keoghan was raised his mother, who struggled with addiction and passed away of a heroin overdose when he was 12. He spent time in foster care living in 13 different homes.
“People just read that [as] laziness and go, ‘Oh, that’s no excuse to be an absent father’. But I am not an absent father,” he continued. Keoghan noted that his increasing fame has led to more criticism and deters him from being open about his son.
“I don’t think it’s fair to put my child online,” he explained. “There are sick people out there.”
“Because I reigned that in, people draw a narrative and go, ‘Absent father, s**t, deadbeat dad,’ and more disgusting things I wouldn’t even repeat,” he continued.
“Just the audacity of some people, man, it sickens me. It makes me furious.”
But he won’t feed the haters and feels he doesn’t need to prove he’s with his child, “you don’t deserve that” he said.
Does Barry Keoghan have a child?
Yes, in June 2022 Barry and his now ex Alyson confirmed they were expecting their first child together and welcomed their son, Brando, two months later in August.
“It’s indescribable,” Barry explained of the birth of his son to GQ magazine in October 2022. “It’s a love I’ve not felt before.”
After winning a BAFTA for his supporting role in The Banshees of Inisherin, Barry dedicated the award to his son.
“Brando. I just want this for my son as well, Brando,” he told the crowd. “[And] for my mother and also for the kids that are dreaming to be something from the area that I came from. This is for yous.”
Is Barry dating Sabrina Carpenter?
Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter set the internet on fire when reports emerged that they were a couple.
After months of speculation dating back to late 2023, the pair went public in February 2024 by attending Gucci’s Grammys afterparty together.
Since then they’ve also appeared together at high-profile events including the Vanity Fair Oscars afterparty and at the famed Coachella Festival.
After Sabrina released her latest album Short ‘n’ Sweet, which includes the song ‘Bed Chem’, widely speculated to be about the Saltburn actor (he even said it was his favourite one on social media), Keoghan attended the ‘Espresso’ singer’s concert, watching the song live.
In clips posted to social media by fans who were also at the Virginia show, the Irish actor was seen watching the show from a private spot in the audience. He seems smiley as Carpenter serenades the crowd with her spicy set list.
When asked about their relationship on The Louis Theroux Podcast he kept it Short ‘n’ Sweet saying, “I’m incredibly blessed.”
“[She’s] Such a strong, independent lady who’s massively talented and yeah. Pretty special.”
How did Sabrina Carpenter meet Barry Keoghan?
Carpenter and Keoghan were first spotted together in December 2023 and, according to the Daily Mail, the pair were enjoying a “romantic” dinner together.
After the initial photos of the pair together made headlines, Sabrina and Barry’s romance seemingly disappeared from the public eye.
Despite keeping their rumoured relationship under wraps, fans speculated that Barry and Sabrina are in fact an item after they were photographed together at the Grammy Awards afterparty in February 2024.
Staying true to form, the pair did not share any further photos or comments on their star-studded night out, however, fans of the couple were quick to notice what appeared to be a lipstick stain on Barry’s cheek in other photos from the event…
The following week, Barry and Sabrina seemingly made their romance red carpet official at the 2024 Vanity Fair Oscars Party.
While they didn’t pose together on the carpet, the duo did stand next to one another, with fans quick to point out Barry looking lovingly at Sabrina while she posed for photos.
Later in the evening, the couple were photographed together with their now trademark hand-over-mouth pose, with Barry’s ‘Sabrina’ bracelet proudly on full display.
Shortly after the buzz of the afterparty, PopBase shared an adorable snap of Barry and Sabrina captured in the event’s photo booth, sending fans on social media into a frenzy at the couple’s low-key relationship launch.
In May 2024, the couple posed together on the Met Gala red carpet, with Vogue documenting their joint behind-the-scenes before the event.
After six months of speculation, Barry and Sabrina seemingly confirmed their romance – starring as a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired couple for Sabrina’s Please Please Please music video.
In August 2024, Sabrina made some rare comments about her beau in an interview with Variety.
Speaking about casting him in the music video for Please Please Please, Carpenter said it was only natural given that he “loved” the song.
“He’s obsessed with the lyrics, and I’m so grateful for that,” she told the outlet. “I don’t want to sound biased, but I think he’s one of the best actors of this generation. So getting to see him on the screen with my song as the soundtrack made the video better and all the more special.”
Did Sabrina and Barry break up?
Shortly after that interview, however, numerous outlets picked up on the claim, published by Deux Moi, that the pair had broken up.
But just hours after the reports surfaced, Keoghan appeared to subtly contradict the rumours by ‘’liking’’ one of Carpenter’s Instagram posts,
And the image he was liking? Carpenter kneeling in blue lingerie for the cover of her new Short n’ Sweet bonus track LP.
So what prompted the split rumours?
According to The Sun, Carpenter, 25, had become fed up with the 31-year-old actor’s hard-partying lifestyle.
‘’Barry acts like an idiot when he is drunk and Sabrina was getting increasingly frustrated,’’ a source told the publication.
‘’He has always been a party animal and Sabrina was fed up with his antics.’’
Despite multiple reports claiming that Carpenter had called it quits, it appears that the pair may in fact still be together.
Following the release of Carpenter’s Short N’ Sweet album, Keoghan took to Instagram stories in early September 2024 to celebrate his girlfriend’s newest work, writing, “Bed Chem is my fave just sayin m’darlin @sabrinacarpenter.”
The short and sweet comment from the actor also sent fans into frenzy across social media as many speculated that Bed Chem was in fact Carpenter’s song dedicated to her romance with Keoghan, with the lyrics reading, “Who’s the cute boy in the white jacket with the thick accent?”
He supported her at her Virginia concert in October 2024 as part of her Short n’ Sweet tour, looking very proud watching from the audience. Cute!
Is Barry Keoghan married?
Keoghan was previously in a long-term relationship with Alyson Kierrans, a dentist, who he met at a London bar in February 2021.
Whilst the couple have remained pretty tight-lipped on their relationship, they did make their red carpet debut in October 2021.
However, in July 2023, multiple publications reported the pair had split up after two and a half years.
“They’ve grown apart over recent months and things have finally come to a head,” one source told The Sun at the time. “As far as she’s concerned, it’s over.”
Despite fans questioning if Barry and Alyson were engaged, the couple never denied nor confirmed the rumours.
Before his romance with Alyson, Barry was in a long-term relationship with Shona Guerin. The pair began dating in 2017 and were living together in Los Angeles before they split in 2020.
