Who would have thought the critically panned film, Green Lantern, would result in one of the strongest Hollywood “It” couples of our generation?
Since meeting on the set of the film in 2010, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have quickly become one of the most-loved celebrity pairings and all for good reason – throughout the years they’ve kept it refreshingly honest.
Despite keeping their family largely out of the private eye, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have shared with fans some hilarious insights into their relationship over the years. How did Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds meet?
Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds first met in 2010, when they were cast in the lead roles of Green Lantern.
They made their first public appearance together at Comic-Con in San Diego that summer however they were not dating. In fact, they were both in relationships! At the time, Blake Lively was dating her Gossip Girl co-star Penn Badgley and Ryan Reynolds was married to Black Widow star, Scarlett Johansson.
By September 2010, Blake and Penn had announced they had ended their relationship, and by December Ryan and Scarlett released a joint statement confirming their divorce.
In October 2011, it was confirmed by a source to People that Blake and Ryan were “very much a couple.”
Are Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds married?
The low-key pair shocked fans when they tied the knot during a surprise wedding in September 2012.
Whilst they never released any photos, Ryan did apologise for the couple’s choice to get married at a plantation in South Carolina years later.
“It’s something we’ll always be deeply and unreservedly sorry for,” he told Fast Company in 2020. “It’s impossible to reconcile.”
In May 2014, the couple made waves appearing at the Met Gala hand in hand.
“Everything we do in life we do together,” Blake explained in the August 2014 issue of Vogue magazine. “I get to share my life with the person he’s become, and we get to grow from there.”
“We’ve never gone a week without seeing each other,” she later divulged to Marie Claire in September “He’s my best, best friend.”

Do Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds have kids?
Blake Lively announced she and Ryan were expecting their first child together in October 2014 via her now-defunct website, Preserve.
Three months later, she gave birth to the pair’s first daughter, James and in May 2015 the couple shared the first glimpse of their daughter with an Instagram pic of her holding Ryan’s hand.
In April 2016, Us Weekly confirmed that Blake Lively was pregnant again and by September, the couple welcomed their second daughter, Inez.
The family of four made their debut in December 2016 to celebrate Ryan Reynold’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
“Proud is a pitiful word to describe how I felt today,” Blake captioned an Instagram post from the event. “@vancityreynolds The permanence of your impact is undeniable …Always has been, but now we have a fancy [star] to show for it.”

Blake Lively once again surprised fans at the Pokémon Pikachu Detective premiere in May 2019, debuting a baby bump and revealing that the family were expecting their third child.
Whilst the couple didn’t announce the birth of their third child, fans suspected their latest addition’s name could be Betty after Taylor Swift dropped a song titled Betty in July 2020.
Taylor later confirmed that the song, which also referenced the couple’s two eldest daughters Jamez and Inez, “named all the characters…after my friend’s kids.”
During an interview with Access in November 2020, Ryan Reynolds divulged a few more details into how he and Blake raise their growing family.
“I love being a girl dad,” he explained. “I have three daughters, which I never in a million years would have imagined.”
Explaining that the couple tries to be “as present as possible” while raising their girls, he added: “We don’t split up like I shoot movies and my wife shoots movies and we go travel all over the place and we just all go together.”
“I think that’s been the best part of it is that we really don’t spend a lot of time apart. I get to spend a lot of time with my girls.”
In September 2022, the couple confirmed they were expecting baby number four after Blake debuted her growing bump at the Forbes Women’s Summit in New York City.
The pair casually announced that Blake had given birth during the 2022 Superbowl – with photos from the day showing a lack of baby bump.
“We’re very excited. Look, we wouldn’t do this four times if we didn’t love it,” Ryan shared on CNBC’s Power Lunch, shortly after Blake gave birth.
“Everybody’s doing great. Everybody’s actually doing fantastic. If we hadn’t figured it out by now, I think we’d be in deep, deep trouble.”
Ryan spoke with ET Canada on the red carpet at the Canadian Screen Awards in April 2023 about the surprisingly seamless transition from a family of five to a family of six.
“I haven’t met any of them yet, but they seem great,” he laughed when asked how the family were going. “They have a private Instagram account that I follow.”
But dad jokes aside, the actor added that the latest family expansion has been as difficult as expected. “You know, two to three was a huge jump…three to four less so,” he said.
“I cannot speak for my wife, but it’s just from what I’ve observed. But we love it. You know, we would be idiots to do this again if we didn’t love it.”
