Almost exactly one year after they hard-launched their romance, Halsey has shared the adorable details of her engagement to Avan Jogia.
Speaking on an October episode of Call Her Daddy, Halsey revealed that the Victorious star proposed while on holiday in Barcelona, telling host Alex Cooper, “It was kind of like where we first started handing out, so it’s really special to us.”
Reflecting on their decision to get engaged, Halsey added, “I wasn’t sure that I was ready, but I was also kind of like, ‘You’re literally the most amazing, smartest, hottest, nicest person I’ve ever met in my life, so don’t go anywhere.’ I’m trying to figure it out.”
“I couldn’t really understand the point of marrying just from an emotional point of view… and then, I don’t know, it was just something with him where I just knew I wanted to marry him.”
Halsey’s latest comments come just over one month since the singer announced her engagement on X. Quote tweeting celebrity news page PopBase, the 29-year-old responded to the caption describing the actor as her boyfriend with a nonchalant correction of “fiancé Avan Jogia.”
Rumours of the couple’s relationship first surfaced in early September 2023 on celebrity gossip site DeuxMoi after the page received an anonymous tip hinting at Halsey’s potential new beau.
Speculation was further heightened after Page Six captured photos of the pair holding hands and kissing while out for dinner in Los Angeles, with the pair also being spotted together by fans several times in the following weeks.
News of the couple’s engagement was revealed almost exactly one year after the pair first shared photos together on Instagram for Halloween, with Halsey and Jogia sporting co-ordinating couple costumes.
Taking to the comments to share their surprise, fans were obsessed with the pop culture power couple, to say the least.
“Holy s*** [it’s] confirmed,” wrote one fan, with another adding, “What a ridiculously beautiful couple. It should be illegal to be that attractive!”
Is Halsey married to Alev Aydin?
Prior to her engagement with Jogia, Halsey was previously in a long-term relationship with film producer Alev Aydin.
The couple were first spotted publicly in January 2019 sitting courtside at a Los Angeles Lakers basketball game, during which time Aydin was reportedly working with Halsey on her biopic.
After attending the game, the pair were not seen together again until over one year later, when tattoo artist Amanda Owley shared photos of the duo’s matching tattoos on Instagram.
“She said that everything with how the planets were aligned and where the cosmos were at that moment indicated that it was the best time to plant seeds into the ground of life,” Owley told People, adding that the couple chose to get the word ‘seeds’ tattooed on their feet “because it was closest to the earth.”
After keeping their romance out of the public eye for over two years, Halsey shocked fans in January 2021 when she announced that she was expecting their first child with Aydin.
“Heart so full, I love you, sweetness,” Aydin commented on Halsey’s announcement, with the singer simply writing, “surprise! 🍼🌈👼🏻.”
The couple welcomed their son, Ender Ridley Aydin, on July 14, 2021, with the couple sharing the exciting news on Instagram.
“Gratitude. For the most “rare” and euphoric birth. Powered by love,” Halsey captioned the announcement.
Following their split from Aydin in 2023, Halsey shared that Jogia has also developed a strong bond with her now three-year-old son, telling Call Her Daddy, “He has a relationship with my son now, and just watching the way he shows up for my son in such an authentic way, I was like, ‘Okay, you really are just the best person.'”
The singer also joked that her son has since started calling her by her birth name, Ashley Frangipane, joking, “My son started calling me Ash. I was like, ‘You better get it together. I’m Mummy to you.'”
