The complete guide to Heidi Klum’s halloween costumes

We recap over 20 years of model's most spooktacular looks.

October 31 may include carving a jack-o-lantern and trick-or-treating for many of us, but for Hollywood’s biggest stars, it is a chance to wear their most elaborate fancy dress at Heidi Klum’s annual Halloween party.

While the former Project Runway star’s extravagant costumes have gained mass media attention in the last few years, Heidi’s commitment to Halloween is not a recent phenomenon, with 2024 marking the 24th instalment of her star-studded costume party.

Arriving at her 2023 soiree as a peacock, Heidi’s costumes have continued to grow increasingly more elaborate, with her costume repertoire including everything from animated princesses to fan-favourite horror film characters.

Heidi was almost recognisable during her 2022 Halloween party, with the 50-year-old attending the red carpet in a head-to-toe bait worm costume.

The former Victoria’s Secret model’s look was further accentuated by husband Tom Kaulitz, who walked alongside the star as a bloodied fisherman.

“I like to do something unexpected, so I tried to think of a costume that’s super absurd, but also very familiar… Because it’s Halloween, you need the creepy factor [that’s] also a bit gross and disgusting,” Heidi told Vogue.

Following over ten hours of prosthetics application, Heidi attended her 2019 Halloween party as her take on an alien.

Attending alongside husband Tom Kaulitz, the couple drew inspiration for their narrative costume from Tom’s band, Tokio Hotel, who Heidi claimed believed in aliens.

Speaking at the event, Tom told The Hollywood Reporter, “I was an astronaut in outer space, looking for a new planet for the humans to live on … I was out there touring the universe and I found this creature. I thought, ‘Wow, she looks good,’ so I brought her home.”

Speaking on the inspiration behind her costume, the Project Runway star told People, “It’s kind of like a dead body with the first layer of skin ripped off. It’s basically like me naked. All my veins and blood will all be visible. You don’t feel quite naked with it because it is so colourful.”

Following a trip to India earlier that year, Heidi opted for an elaborate costume of the Hindu goddess Kali during her 2008 Halloween party.

The costume was highly criticised by members of the Hindu community, with community leader Rajan Zed telling Times of India, “Goddess Kali is highly revered in Hinduism, and she is meant to be worshipped in temples and not to be used in clubs for publicity stunts or thrown around loosely for dramatic effect.”

“Hindus welcome Hollywood and other entertainment industries to immerse themselves in Hinduism, but they should take it seriously and respectfully and not just use the religion for decorating or to advance their selfish agenda,” he continued.

“The problem with [the costume] was that I was so big, I couldn’t fit into a car, so I had to get a convertible at the last minute just so I could get to the party. I couldn’t drink water because my arms couldn’t reach my face. I couldn’t even sit,” she told The New York Post at the time.
