Jessica Mauboy has dished on married life in a recent interview, just months after she and long-time partner Themeli Magripilis tied the knot.
Jess, who has kept her relationship largely out of the private eye spoke to The Sunday Times in November 2022, revealing that her wedding “took a long time.”
“We used to talk about it (getting married) and we talked about how strong our families are and they get along really well.”
The couple reportedly said “I do” in a small church ceremony in Darwin in July according to the Northern Territory Times.
They celebrated with 300 guests at the Mindil Beach Casino afterwards in a reception that was reportedly full of happy tears and singing.
The wedding came as no surprise after Jess told WHO earlier this year that she’d always dreamed of a beachy Darwin wedding.
“I always knew I wanted to have the wedding in Darwin,” she revealed of her and Themeli’s hometown, where her extended family remains.
“We are just making sure everyone can be there, but are close to locking in a date!”
Jess and Themeli had been planning the nuptials for some time after getting engaged during a sun-filled vacation to Greece in 2019.
Jess admitted that despite being together for 14 years, there were times when she wasn’t sure if the relationship would work.
“I knew I was going to be a traveller, I knew I would always stay in this lifestyle,” she explained to The Sunday Times.
“I was always on the verge of ‘I don’t know if this is going to work…I think it really helped that he didn’t know who I was and we made a pact that we would create this relationship and keep it alive.”
“He’s such a good guy and I think it really helps that he doesn’t work in the music industry.”
The pair have been together for more than a decade total, having first met in a Darwin nightclub when Jess was just 18.
“I’m the one who made the move and ended up getting his number from a really good friend,” The Voice coach previously said of the beginning of their relationship.
“I texted and said ‘I’d really like this to work, how about you?’ and I didn’t think I would do anything in my life like that,” she revealed.
Her career was just beginning at the time, so the pair did long distance for the first seven years of their relationship – showing intense dedication to each other.
Jess realised he was ‘the one’ when she travelled to Greece with Themeli to meet his extended family, and not long after they were engaged.
