When did the Kardashian Christmas Eve Party Tradition Begin?
The tradition first began over 40 years ago, with Kris Jenner holding the first Christmas Eve party back in 1978. Over the years, the family have worked hard to keep the tradition alive, with Kim Kardashian and Kourtney Kardashian taking over in recent years.
“I want you guys to be able to do this until you’re my age and one of your kids takes over. That’s the joy,” Kris told Kim in 2019 – the first year her daughter threw the bash herself.
“It’s just the thought of actually not doing at my house. … I’m getting emotional. It makes me sad. It does. It makes me so sad. It’s just that magic that you can make, and make everybody feel so amazing on one night a year. It’s that love…It’s not just a party. It’s changing of the guards.”
“Our Christmas Eve party was always this fun party that I just remember being friends and family and my grandparents and cousins. It was just the best night ever,” Kim explained during the episode of Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
“But my mom’s been doing it for so long that it’s turned into something different. It’s kind of a party just for my mom and mostly her friends. We want it to be a place that we can just have fun and it’s all of our friends and definitely family and my mom’s friends, too. But a good mix of both so we can have a good time and really just enjoy each other.”
In 2023 Khloe shared a bit more insight into the family tradition. “Our Christmas Eve party has been going on before I’ve been born,” she shared on Snapchat. “My mum has always put together this party, and it was always her thing. The older we got, we started to realise what a huge undertaking it is to throw a party…especially of this magnitude. “
“Christmas Eve has grown the more the family has grown,” she continued.” It’s now a huge soiree and we…subconsciously like to outdo ourselves from the year before.”

“We do take turns but it’s a group decision and whoever feels like they can handle the party that year. So it sort of changes every year depending on what that person is going through or whoever wants to take on the hosting of a party with a couple hundred people!”
“There’s really no rhyme or reason, we all contribute to the party and we all have a hand in decorating it, but in regards to the locations, it’s really whoever agrees to have it at their house.”
