And it seems he holds nothing against the ride-sharing service Uber, after last year a driver for the app shared details of a conversation which cost Karl his job.
Admitting he still uses Uber, the ex Today show host joked about the ‘Ubergate’ scandal in a conversation on 2GB’s Steve Price Show on Tuesday.
“I have recently purchased a ute, a HiLux, but it just hasn’t arrived yet, and I had to get an Uber this morning to work,” he told Steve.
“It took about 65 minutes, because unfortunately the driver didn’t know which way she was going,” Karl added, complaining about Sydney traffic.
“Were you on the phone?” Steve asked with a laugh.
“I see where you’re going with this. Can I get one of those dump buttons?” Karl joked.
Adding: “I was on the phone actually, I was speaking to my brother [Peter], who’s in very good health at Sky News.”
Karl famously left the Today show in December 2018, after his private life hit the headlines.
While ‘falling ratings’ were blamed for his controversial departure from Nine, it was a late-night conversation with his drunken brother, dubbed ‘Ubergate’, that ultimately led to his demise.
“It was Pete who made the call in the Uber, Pete who put Karl on speaker phone, and Pete who moaned about the job sucking the life out of him,” an insider told New Idea.
“Karl was really offering his brother a bit of a shoulder to cry on but ended up getting drawn into the moaning too.”
Karl is still employed by Channel Nine, but he has been notably absent from programming in recent months.
