While some teens never want to hang out with their mums, that’s not the case for Michelle Williams. The actress, 43, enjoyed a day out with her 18-year-old daughter, Matilda Rose Ledger, on July 30, strolling about in New York City.
The mother-daughter duo were photographed walking hand in hand in Brooklyn, and treating themselves to a manicure and pedicure at a local day spa.
Matilda is also the child of late Australian actor Heath Ledger – and her facial similarity to him is uncanny. Her sandy blonde hair almost bordering on brown is also just like Ledger’s own locks. And the teenager seems to have inherited her dad’s trademark cool and casual sense of style, pairing a white T-shirt with matching white pants.
Although born in New York, Matilda lived away from the city for six years following Ledger’s death from an accidental drug overdose on January 22, 2008, which occurred when she was just 2.
“We moved – we left Brooklyn and lived in the country for six years because it was an intolerable state of existence,” Williams told the New York Post in June 2016, referring to the media onslaught after Ledger’s passing.
After three years together, Williams and Ledger had split in September 2007.
“Becoming a father exceeds all of my expectations. It’s marvellous,” Heath once said of his daughter to In Touch.
Ever since Ledger’s death, Williams has been passionate about protecting her daughter’s privacy, ensuring she grew up away from the spotlight and media scrutiny.
Over the years, Matilda has maintained a close relationship through visits and Zoom calls with her father’s family, who are based in Perth.
The Ledgers had stipulated that she would inherit her father’s estate when she turned 18, which occurred in October 2023.
