Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce. It’s definitely not the relationship anyone expected when it first made headlines in 2023, but it’s definitely the relationship we needed.
Sure, when news first broke we weren’t exactly in the loop when it came to American Football. Sure, not many Swiftes even knew who Travis Kelce was prior to this. But, in the years since we’ve quickly gotten up to speed: Travis and Jason, Mama Kelce, The Chiefs, Touchdowns etc etc.
Now, as Taylor gears up to appear at her second Super Bowl and engagement rumours hit a new time high, it seems that the relationship is getting serious.
But what do we actually know about Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift’s relationship? Despite Taylor and Travis remaining firmly in the public eye – the pair have remained surprisingly tight-lipped when it comes to actual details.
So why are fans so invested in the relationship despite not actually knowing much? Well, apart from the fact that the two successful and famous individuals make a super cute pair – it seems like the relationship was just meant to be.
But don’t take it from us – Swifties have done some digging and it appears fate has played its part, with some major coincidences leading to this (hopefully) happily ever after.
1. The Lyrics to Mary’s Song (Oh My My My)
Swifties were quick to bring up a very specific lyric from a song on Taylor’s debut album when she was first linked to Travis.
In Mary’s Song, Taylor sings the lyric: “I’ll be 87, you’ll be 89 / I’ll still look at you like the stars that shine.”
Sure, the original lyrics were about the ages of the couple mentioned in the song, BUT, Travis’ jersey number is ALSO 87. See, fate. Also both Travis and Taylor were born in ’89…just saying.
2. Shared Birthdays
Want another strange but sweet coincidence? Travis’ birthday is October 5 – the same birthday as Taylor’s beloved grandmother Majorie.
3. Maths
Bringing it back once again to Travis’ #87 jersey. Why? Because mathematical Swifties have pointed out the very important fact that 87 + 13 (Taylor’s favorite number of course) = 100.
What does that mean? We’re not sure. But it has to mean something, right?
“I love numbers. Numbers kind of rule my world,” Taylor herself told Paul McCartney in a 2020 Rolling Stone interview. That same year, she told Jimmy Kimmel “The numerology thing, when it doesn’t take over on its own, I sort of force it to happen.”
4. Arrowhead
The first Chiefs match attended by Taylor was at Arrowhead Stadium – which Taylor herself performed at earlier this year during her Eras Tour.
Fans were quick to point out that in Taylor’s song Cornelia Street, the humble arrowhead is also mentioned.
Lyrics include: “We were a fresh page on the desk / Filling in the blanks as we go / As if the street lights pointed in an arrowhead / Leading us home.”
Do with that what you will.
5. The Archer
Fans were also quick to point out Travis and Taylor’s shared use of arrow symbolism. When Taylor performs The Archer on the Eras Tour, she mimes the actions of shooting a bow and arrow. And guess who does the exact same movement? Travis! The footballer is known to mime shooting a bow and arrow when scoring a touchdown.
6. Lucky number 13 (AKA, more numbers)
In the first game Taylor publically attended to support Travis, his team won by 31 points.
As Taylor herself once told Jimmy Kimmel, 31 “In my mind, it’s just the opposite. It’s just 13 backwards.”
When Taylor turned 31 in 2020, she wrote on Instagram, “Ever since I was 13, I’ve been excited about turning 31 because it’s my lucky number backwards,” which is just more proof of why 31 is not a number that should be ignored in this scenario.
All Swifties know that when it comes to Taylor Swift NOTHING is a coincidence.
7. TikTok
Back in July 2023, Taylor posted a TikTok ahead of her show at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. In the video, she can be seen wearing a red and yellow T-shirt, which is mostly covered by a black sweatshirt.
At the time, fans didn’t think much of it, but now, fans have begun pointing out that the shirt looks suspiciously like Chiefs merch.
8. Football lyrics
Now looking over Taylor’s music it’s clear the girl loves a good football line, and of course, Swifties are pulling out the receipts as her relationship with Travis attracts attention.
Exhibit A: “This morning I said we should talk about it / ’Cause I read you should never leave a fight unresolved / That’s when you came in wearing a football helmet / And said, ‘OK, let’s talk.’” Taylor sings in ‘Stay Stay Stay’ – A song she sang on the same day she made the TikTok in what appears to be Cheifs’ merch.
Exhibit B: “But in your life you’ll do things / Greater than dating the boy on the football team / But I didn’t know it at 15.” Taylor sings in ‘Fifteen.’ Sure the lyrics were written almost 15 years ago but maybe she’s revisiting the past.
9. More song lyrics
As many Swifties already know, the very first track of Reputation opens with Swift singing, “Knew he was a killer first time that I saw him / Wonder how many girls he had loved and left haunted.”
Interesting that Travis’ Instagram handle is @killatrav. Very interesting.
10. Astrology
Why wouldn’t Swifties compare Taylor and Travis’ astrological signs and their compatibility?
“She’s a fire sign, and he’s an air sign. This is one of the best combinations. It translates to lots of excitement, stimulating conversations, and spontaneous adventures,” astrologer Chelsea Jackson told Elite Daily.
Another strange coincidence? Taylor is a Sagittarius, a zodiac sign symbolized by the archer. Yes, you read that right, another Archer reference.
11. Old Photos
Ok, even the most cynical readers have to admit this is kooky. Back in 2013, when Taylor was on her Red Tour, she took a picture with a fan who gave her a Cheifs’ jersey to hold. Weird right?!
12. The Hannah Montanna Movie
This one is a bit of a stretch, we know. But let’s just call it girl maths. Basically, fans have pointed out in Taylor’s iconic ‘You Belong With Me’ music video, she is cheering on her football crush as he scores a touchdown. The actor playing said footballer? Lucas Till. What is Lucas Till known for? His role in Hannah Montana: The Movie playing Travis Brody.
Get it? Travis and Travis??
13. More TikToks
Just a month before their relationship kicked off on the internet, the Chiefs’ official TikTok account posted a video about their players’ celeb crushes growing up. Travis himself hesitated to answer, but his teammates were quick to respond on his behalf, telling the camera: “Taylor Swift.”
This video sent fans into a spiral now that the pair seem to be dating, with many now questioning the timeline of this relationship. Have they been secretly dating for a while?
We’ll just have to wait and see what Taylor says, or rather sings, when she inevitably winds up releasing music about this moment. We can’t wait!
