Grant and Chezzi Denyer have revealed the horrifying impact of the star’s battle to get off hardcore medication after he was involved in a devastating 2008 vehicle accident.
The TV star, whose injuries from the Monster Truck crash included a broken back, has spoken before about the hell he went through, admitting ‘the medication is often worse than the actual injury itself.’
Suffering from horrific hallucinations from the prescribed meds, including delusions of non-existent home invasions and sexual assault, Grant understandably decided to get off the pills, cold turkey. The process involved extreme mood swings and emotional disturbances.
Now Chezzi has broken her silence during an interview today on Sydney’s 2Day FM, confessing; ‘The things that he did and the things that I saw were really horrific.
‘I had to receive quite extensive counselling afterwards because he honestly believed he would never walk again and we had no real outside help. When we brought him home from hospital, I’m not a nurse, I didn’t know what I was doing.
‘Some of the things that we went through would test any relationship.’
Responding to Chezzi’s revelations, an emotional Grant revealed he is still dealing with the consequences of what they went through, including memories of things he said while under the influence, and during the wrenching cold turkey process.
‘I said things that I had no control over and I’m still humiliated and so mortified that I said them in those times of weaning myself off that medication,’ he saids. ‘I’m so forever sorry for it.’
When asked why she stayed with him, despite being a relatively new couple at the time, Chezzi simply responded, ‘I knew that I loved him.’.
