American Crime Story is officially coming back for a third season, and while the stellar cast is nothing to sniff at, the surprise producer who’s come on board has us shook!

Following on from seasons one (The People vs. OJ Simpson) and two (The Assassination of Gianni Versace), US TV channel FX has announced their newest offering: Impeachment: American Crime Story.

This time around, we’re taking a look inside the scandalous affair between former US President Bill Clinton and his then-White House intern Monica Lewinsky, who – surprise! – has taken a role as producer on the highly anticipated show.

After all, who would know exactly what went down better than the woman at the centre of the scandal?

While Monica’s set to take up a role behind the camera, actress Beanie Feldstein will tackle the real-life character on screen.

Along with being our latest #girlcrush after slaying her performances in Booksmart and Lady Bird, the 25-year-old also happens to be the sister of Hollywood funnyman Jonah Hill – and the Wolf of Wall Street star has nothing but praise for his little sister.

“The things I struggle with, she had knocked down when she was 14,” he told People.

“I would worry about anyone else about to go through what she’s about to go through in the world, except for her,” Jonah added of his younger sibling’s recent sudden rise to fame.

“And she’s such a baller!”

So, what is it about Beanie that makes her so damn likeable?

“I had such an immensely lucky break with Lady Bird,” she insists of her huge popularity. “I got to play the ultimate best friend, so people feel friendly with me. The fact that people feel a cosiness with me is my dream.”

It’ll be interesting to see Beanie bring that easy-going charm to her role as Monica Lewinsky in the coming months, as she stars alongside Sarah Paulson – who will play Linda Tripp, a former US civil servant whose secret recordings exposed the then-president’s illicit relationship with the young political staffer.

Sarah will also executive produce the series, which will explore “the overlooked dimensions of women who found themselves caught up in the scandal and political war that cast a long shadow over the Clinton Presidency”, FX said in a statement about the new project.

The third instalment in the American Crime Story chronicles will be based on Jeffrey Toobin’s book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, with production gearing up next February for a September 2020 air date.
