We’ve now seen most of the first season of The Kardashians, Hulu’s rebooted version of the hit reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians, and we’ve learned A LOT about where the sisters are in their lives at the moment.
One of the major stories we hoped to get across was Kim Kardashian’s tumultuous divorce from rapper Kanye West, and the show has not disappointed, giving us a few details into Kim’s life – and ultimate relaunch – as she became a single woman once more.
What we didn’t expect was the influence Kanye had on Kim’s life, and how the removal of that influence saw Kim scrambling to find out who she was. It also seems a lot of Kanye’s behaviours while the pair were married impacted the entire Kar-Jenner clan, something we saw Kim apologise for in the most recent episode.
Here are some of the things we’ve picked up from the first seven episodes of the series.

Kanye had a major hand in styling Kim
When they began dating in 2011, he overhauled her wardrobe and began to put her outfits together for her.
“Fashion has always been something that I’ve always been really into. But I have never been the creative. I definitely see what I like but I have never really been the visionary,” Kim said on the show when discussing her new approach to dressing and styling.
“I always just trusted in him, but it is not just about the clothes. That was the last thing we really had in common,” she revealed of Kanye.
“I was always the Kardashians with my sisters. Then I was Kimye. Who is Kim K.? That is the jump. How do I get there without Kanye?” she mused.
While Kanye helped style Kim for her appearance hosting Saturday Night Live, she decided to go it alone when she attended the Wall Street Journal Innovator Awards, where she was honoured for her shapewear brand, Skims.
Kim chose a tight-fitting brown leather dress from her Skims x Fendi collaboration, a choice that was disparaged by Kanye.
“He told me my career was over and showed me a picture of Marge Simpson wearing something similar,” she revealed on the show, leaving her sister Kourtney speechless.

Kanye walked out on Kim’s Saturday Night Live performance
While Kim and Kanye were managing a civil co-parenting relationship when she agreed to do Saturday Night Live, he walked out on her performance after she made jokes about him in her opening monologue.
“He’s upset over the fact that I said the reason I divorced him – used the word ‘divorced’ – he wished I’d said the word ‘filed for divorce’,” Kim revealed to her sister, Khloé.
“I’ve sat there through so many speeches that have not been the most comfortable for me,” she revealed of her previous relationship.
“But that was my partner and I stood by him. I would never embarrass him and walk out and leave.
“He’s so used to getting exactly what he wants. I’ve never seen anything like it. Good for him, but hey, it’s not going to happen here,” she said firmly.
There were tensions between Kanye and the rest of the Kardashian clan
In episode seven of The Kardashians, Kim sat down with her family to address tensions that existed while she was married to Kanye.
As the family gathered at Kim’s house, it was revealed that Kanye was dropping a new song, with the insinuation being it would be somehow insulting to Kim.
“Kanye’s coming out with a new rap song … it means he’s talking mad sh— about me and probably saying whatever,” she divulged to her family around the table.
“I will never stop being me,” Kim countered the news, which she received via text. “All I can do is control how I react to something – I can’t control how he treats me, or how he’s always treated you guys…”
However, she didn’t go into explicit detail.
“I do recognise the impact that my relationship has had on my family, and that I’ve never had the opportunity to just say, ‘I’m sorry guys’,” she went on to explain.
“I’ve protected that for so long, but I’ve said I will never let that happen to you guys again, and I – for once in my life, I feel strong, I’m not going to let anyone treat you guys that way, or myself,” she said firmly.
Kim’s family also came to her defence immediately.
“Most men are not trashing the mother of their kid like that publicly. We don’t have to sit here and throw stones back, we just take it on the chin,” Khloé told her.
“You’re the mother of his kids and have done nothing but be great to him,” Kris added.
