WATCH: Miley Cyrus takes a swipe at Liam Hemsworth during chat with Cody
And now Liam Hemsworth, 30, is getting serious about putting his past with ex-wife Miley Cyrus completely behind him by taking a serious shot at happiness with his model girlfriend, 22.
The Hunger Games actor recently off-loaded the Malibu property he shared with the 28-year-old singer before their split in August 2019. WHO’s sister publication People magazine confirmed Hemsworth sold the three-hectare estate for just under $4.9 million in October.
Desperate for a fresh start, the star didn’t mind having to take a massive loss on the sale after he forked out $9.2 million for the property in 2014. The luxurious home the former couple once shared was destroyed by wildfires in November 2018.
“It’s going to be a journey to rebuild,” the devastated actor shared on social media at the time.”
That snub seems to have been the final straw for Cyrus.
The singer revealed she’s been through a difficult time recently by admitting to falling off the wagon in relation to her sobriety.
“I, like a lot of people, being completely honest, fell off,” Cyrus said in an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music’s New Music Daily. “I’m now two weeks sober and I feel like I really accepted that time.”
It’s a brave admission from Cyrus, who has been open about her battles with alcohol and marijuana in the past. She also released a new music video for her track Prisoner with Dua Lipa last week.
In addition to the pointed lyrics about moving on from a previous relationship, the very last scene of the video features the message: “In Loving Memory of all my exes. Eat s—t.”
Cyrus, who dated and split from Kaitlynn Carter, 32, and Cody Simpson after the end of her nine-month marriage to Hemsworth, says moving on isn’t easy.
“I think especially as young girls, we’re told to commit,” she said recently. “You attach ‘forever’ to so many relationships – then you can become bitter or jaded so you don’t believe in forever because you’ve been hurt.”
While Cyrus may not be don with referencing her past relationships publicly, Hemsworth, meanwhile, has decisively moved on with a brand new life with Brooks in Australia. And his family have welcomed the stunning model into the close-knit clan with open arms.
“Gabby has been living with Liam since quarantine started so his family have gotten very close to her, she’s totally one of them now,” a family friend told Hollywood Life on November 10.
“Liam is very happy with her and so is his family. They think Gabby is a great match for him and they’d love to see them eventually settle down together.”
Brooks charmed the high-profile family at a recent get-together.
The Hemsworths celebrated older brother Luke’s 40th birthday on November 5 with an elaborate 1920s Peaky Blinders-themed costume party three days later. In a rare picture of the whole family together that Chris, 37, shared to Instagram, Brooks proudly stood beside her beau as they posed with Luke and his wife Samantha, 40, Chris and his wife Elsa Pataky, 44, and parents Leonie, 60 and Craig, 65.
For protective family matriarch, Leonie, the fact that Brooks is Aussie is a bonus.
“They love that she’s from Australia, it makes things really easy because they don’t have to worry about Liam moving away,” the source explains.
“They are such a close family, Liam’s parents are overjoyed to have all their boys back home.”
Hemsworth also seems keen to make the move Down Under a permanent one. “It’s just a very mellow area were I grew up,” he told People in May. “It’s quiet and it’s a beautiful spot. I’m grateful to spend time here.”
Luckily, Brooks is just as committed to remaining her home country. “She wants to be in Australia just as much as he does,” a source told E! News.
Further evidence that Hemsworth – who has refused to comment on his relationships publicly – is looking to lead a quieter life is the news he plans to build a yoga studio on the grounds of his new 35-hectare property. The Broken Head home is located close to Chris’ compound.
“Hollywood’s not for Liam in the long term,” the source adds.
Neither, it seems, is a tit for tat war of words with his ex-wife.
