When KC Osborne used to watch Michael Goonan at the Married At First Sight commitment ceremonies, she would think to herself: “I could never date a guy like that.”

“Did I like him as a friend and as a person to chat to? Absolutely,” the 31-year-old tells Who, explaining that the two forged a friendship thanks to their similar style of banter.

But a couple of weeks after the show when Michael’s on-screen wife Stacey Hampton’s alleged affair came out and KC and her MAFS husband Drew Brauer ended things, KC and Michael started to hang out together.

“He sold me that dream of, ‘I would stop my playboy ways to have a girl like you, you’re such a good girl’. You have to remember too, I had felt really rejected and here I was with this guy telling me everything I’d ever dreamed of hearing,” KC reveals.

“I got along with him and I cared about him but I had that voice in my head going: ‘No no no KC this is a danger zone, you shouldn’t go there, you know what he’s like, he’s a party boy, he’ll probably break your heart.’ But when you have someone telling you: ‘You’re amazing, I give you my word, if I had a girl like you I’d change my ways, I want to move forward and have a family,’ it was so full-on and I’d never had a guy say that to me before. I got sold the dream and I fell for it.”

KC adds that because she was in such a vulnerable state, she told herself she’d be hated for pursuing a relationship with another contestant.

“I had Stacey in the back of my mind and I had me telling myself I could never date this person because of his partying ways and then I thought – no disrespect to Stacey – who really cares? She did her wrongs, she even said at the reunion that Lizzie [Sobinoff] was her only true friend.”

“I wish her well. I never want to speak ill of her and I’m sorry she got her heart broken, it sucks, but that’s life unfortunately.”

At the time KC and Michael decided to embark on a relationship with one another, there was also the matter of COVID-19 to address.

With KC based in Sydney and Michael in Melbourne, the couple were forced to decide whether they wanted to self-isolate together in Melbourne or try an interstate relationship.

“We didn’t know what to do,” KC admits.

“I was like ‘I’m falling for this guy and we are dating – if I stay in Sydney and I can’t see him that’s going to be really hard.’ I’m a woman at the end of the day, I want love so Michael was like ‘Move in with me, I’m alone as well.’”

Though KC has no regrets about moving in, she and Michael ended their relationship after five months and though the former MAFS bride revealed in her break up statement that there were certain “changes” Michael needed to make, she won’t be addressing them publicly.

“Out of respect for Michael and moving forward, they’re his changes. It’s not up to the public to know about that – that was our own personal thing within our relationship and his life and it’s private,” she says.

KC also says that whilst they had their issues, she and Michael also shared “so many amazing moments together”.

“When I said he always encouraged my dreams and pushed me forward to work harder, that is what initially made me fall for him because he was so positive and believed in me so much. It felt so nice to have a guy like that, throughout our whole relationship he was like that,” she explains.

“As much as I said about the changes, I didn’t want people to focus on that. I wanted people to go: ‘Wow there is that good part of Michael, he is encouraging and supportive.’ Michael I think has so much potential, he’s just not ready.”

In the wake of the split, KC and Michael have kept things amicable and KC admits she didn’t want to disparage her ex for not only moral reasons, but also out of respect for his family whom she’s still close with.

“I’m not going to go out there and tell the world Michael’s wrongs – I’m not a perfect human either,” she says, adding that she and Michael have stayed in contact and discussed what they both need to work on.

“I think the best thing for us to do now is to go separately and live our own lives and if we’re meant to come back together in the future with changes that are made, it can happen. I definitely say never say never.”

“How he handles this now and what he does now, it’s his choice and I can’t control it. If he does want to go out and be crazy it’s just the way he deals with it and I know that he did love me at the end of the day. We all deal with things differently.”

KC has thrown herself into her work but confesses marriage and kids simply may not ever be on the cards for her.

“It’s been f***ing hard for me, I’m exhausted. It’s so fresh for me because I thought Michael was going to be the one that I married. It’s like when you don’t have much fuel left in the tank and then you give it one more go,” she tearfully admits.

“Time will heal that little part of my life.”
