Magda Szubanski has broken down on the Today Show whilst discussing marriage equality and her own childhood.
Talking to hosts Lisa Wilkinson and Karl Stefanovic, the Kath and Kim star emotionally asked Australians to vote yes in the same-sex marriage plebiscite.
“I barely made it through my childhood and I don’t want it to happen to any of these kids,” the actress/comedian said as she began to get emotional.
“And the fact that there are so many wrongs in the world, that it’s so complicated that can’t be made right. This is a wrong that ca be made right so simply,” she continued.
“If it had been passed in parliament. They will send our children to war, they will kill our children without consulting us, they won’t protect them.”
After urging Australians to participate in the plebiscite.
“Please, when I think about my childhood and the vilification and the disgust that I was on the receiving end of, all I wanted to do was bring joy and what I gave back was Sharon Strzelecki, sorry, I’m so sorry,” Szubanski said [(referring to her famous Kath and Kim character) as she teared up.
“It’s so unnecessary… this is the most unkind thing for no good reason.”
