Amid fears for Elizabeth Sobinoff’s health, former Married at First Sight star Martha Kalifatidis has rushed to her pal’s defence, setting the record straight about her drastic 10-kilogram weight loss.

WATCHEx contestant Elizabeth confirmed as INTRUDER in new MAFS

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, the makeup artist urged Lizzie’s followers to ease up on the harsh comments, making note of the fact her shrinking figure is a result of her autoimmune disease.

“I don’t think there is anything to worry about. I think she looks great and wasn’t it a year ago that people were calling her fat?” she added, pointing out the hypocrisy.

“And now they are saying she’s too skinny. Just leave her alone, it’s her body and she can do what she wants with it… I’m pretty sure she was quite open about having health issues, so maybe that has something to do with it? Maybe instead of everyone just saying, ‘Oh she’s [too skinny],’ dig into it a little bit more and you’ll learn or find out the truth.”

As we know, Lizzie suffers from photosensitivity which she told WHO last year is “a mild cousin of lupus”. According to the brunette beauty, gluten and alcohol can trigger the condition which can also cause her weight to go up or down by 6 kilograms.

“I get a lot of the lupus symptoms and when I’m in a flare-up, I burn, as if you’re holding fire to the skin,” Elizabeth told us. “It’s hard for me to even be near a window.”

She also told her fans earlier this year that she’d been diagnosed with Porphyria— a condition which also results in weight fluctuation.

“There’s been a lot of curiosity out there, people saying to me, ‘How have you lost a bit of weight?'” she revealed. “What I want to put out there is that I have porphyria, and how you manage porphyria is with a high carb diet. I use chocolate because my body can tolerate it right now. Before I get the ‘there are healthier alternatives’, it is working for me currently, and I get scared to try a lot of foods because my body also rejects ‘healthy food’ too, it’s not biased.

“Also lots of people out there have to be on medication, and unfortunately weight gain can be a common side effect for a lot of chronic illness meds or chronic illness in general. Sometimes the weight gain in this can be more than 20 kilograms.”

Fans of the reality star voiced concern over her sudden fluctuation last week after she posted a photo to Instagram which highlighted her overly slender figure.

“[She’s] looking so thin and sick, hope all is OK. Hopefully, you can put some kilos back on. This does not look good on you,” one fan commented on the post.

Another added: “No-one is being nasty or horrible, just stating the facts. Lizzie has a warm, generous soul, however, I would be worried if she was my daughter. She doesn’t look well, but if she’s happy that’s all that matters.”

“You look amazing but don’t lose any more weight. You were beautiful on MAFS,” a third person wrote.

Seemingly addressing the backlash, she took to her Instagram story to share another photo of herself looking very slim with the caption: “In a good head space right now. Hoping everyone has had at least one smile cross their faces today.”
