Michael Clarke addressed his very public 2010 split from ex-fiancée Lara Worthington (nee Bingle) in a tell-all interview with 60 Minutes on Sunday night.
The former Australian cricket captain, 35, addressed rumours the model, 29, flushed the $200,000 five-carat diamond engagement ring he had given her down the toilet after they split.
“I’d like to say I’m a very silly man. But I’m not that silly,” he laughed. “I’m not throwing any diamond ring down a toilet.”
Adding: “It’s 100 percent bull**t!”
Following the couple’s highly publicised split, Clarke admitted the media scrutiny became so intense that he found himself finding ways to dodge the media circus which had gathered at the front of his Bondi home.
“That was heavy, There were cameras 24/7,” he said. “I got to a stage when I actually couldn’t stay in my own house – I didn’t feel comfortable.
“So I ended up hiding in the boot of my mate’s car, he picked me up in the garage and snuck out without the media seeing me,” Clarke revealed.
Adding: “That wasn’t my dream, I didn’t know that came with playing cricket for Australia.”
In the interview, Clarke, who married Kyly Boldy in 2012 and welcomed their daughter Kelsey Lee three years later, refused to apologise for his ‘younger self,’ saying: “I’ve apologized enough. I haven’t done anything wrong.”
He then concluded: “I just did it my way.”
Clarke made front-page headlines in 2010 after he prematurely departed a New Zealand cricket tour to return to Sydney for ‘personal reasons.’
Two days later, the sportsman announced he had ended his two-year engagement from Worthington.
Their split came after a naked photo of Worthington – taken by her former lover AFL star Brendan Fevola – emerged.
Lara is now married to Avatar star Sam Worthington and is pregnant with their second child.
