Michelle Williams has revealed the bizarre training she and her Destiny’s Child group members undertook under the guidance of Beyonce’s father, Mathew Knowles, while part of the iconic girl group.
Speaking on The Kyle and Jackie O Show after being unmasked as the Microphone on The Masked Singer Australia, Michelle gave insight into her previous life as part of the famous pop trio.
“Can I ask you one thing that I’ve always wanted to know?” Jackie ‘O’ Henderson asked during the chat.
“Beyonce – Did she practice in the early days singing whilst running on a treadmill so that she could dance and sing at the same time and her voice would not falter?”
Michelle replied, “Yes. That was training for all the girls of Destiny’s Child so that you could sing live and have stamina and endurance.”
Kyle added, “I believe Beyonce’s father was one level under Joe Jackson with the training, he was no muck around. He was pushing, pushing, pushing and look at the success!”
Michelle then gave props to Mathew, saying he was “great.”
“He was a great coach. I would liken him to a coach who wants to make sure that team gets the championship,” the singer explained.
It comes following Michelle’s surprising appearance on The Masked Singer Australia, in which she was revealed to be Microphone.
Despite her glamorous take on Journey’s ’Don’t Stop Believing’, the Microphone was no match for Rooster’s clucky rendition of Labrinth’s ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’.
Abbie Chatfield was close to discovering Microphone’s identity, guessing that it was Michelle’s fellow member of Destiny’s Child, Letoya Luckett, while Dave Hughes put his bets on singer, songwriter and actress, Cyndi Lauper.
Chrissie Swan was certain The Microphone was R&B royalty, Brandy, and Mel B nailed it by locking in Michelle Williams.
When asked to describe her connection to Great Big World’s ‘Say Something’, the song behind her jaw-dropping performance in episode eight, Michelle said: “It’s no secret I was engaged, and then it didn’t work out. I just remember those words.
“It kind of articulated that this is what I wanted to say… It was almost like therapy. That’s what music can do. It’s been an amazing journey here.”
