The 2006 Christmas film, The Holiday is one of the best festive films of all time. There we said it. Arguably even better than Love Actually.

From the perfect soundtrack, drool-worthy houses and undeniable chemistry between the film’s all-star cast, The Holiday seems to have it all.

And now, the stars of the original are teasing a sequel.

Jude Law, who recently earned himself a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, had lunch with The Holiday writer and director Nancy Meyers in December 2024.

Jude, who played Graham in the 2006 film, playfully joked around about the rumours of a sequel.

“It’s so great to see you,” Nancy said in a video of their lunch date posted to Instagram. “I don’t think I’ve seen you since we wrapped up The Holiday...speaking of which, I’ve seen you interviewed a lot, and they keep asking you if there’s going to be a sequel, what do you think?”

“Is there gonna be a sequel?” Jude sighed, before lifting up a white cloth napkin and recreating the fan-favourite “Mr. Napkin Head” scene of the rom-com.

Is The Holiday 2 really coming out?

It’s not the first time fans have jumped at rumours of a sequel.

In 2023 The Sun reported that the iconic film was getting a sequel almost 17 years later, with a source claiming the original cast were set to return.

“The plan is to start rolling on scenes next year, primarily in the U.K. and in Europe, but the main talent are all signed up and on board,” the source told the publication.

“It’s one of the most successful movies of its kind and still enjoyed every year by millions of fans around the world – it makes perfect sense to revisit those characters and find out what became of their lives after they hooked up.”

“It’ll be funny, poignant, and heartwarming – just what everyone wants for Christmas.”

But just days after The Sun shared news of a potential reboot, director Nancy Meyers has shut down the claims.

Taking to Instagram, the filmmaker wrote, “So many DM’s about this – sorry but it’s not true.”

Do you hear that? It’s our hearts breaking.

And whilst we are hoping, no, praying, for the news to be true – nothing has been confirmed since. And at the end of the day, the only information we have is from an anonymous source.

It’s also important to note that rom-com royalty Nancy Meyers, 75,  who directed the original has not directed a feature film since 2015’s The Intern

But as we hold out hope, we can’t help but think about all the potential plot lines of a possible sequel. Are Graham and Amanda still in the UK? Are Iris and Miles in LA? Are there more kids in the picture? Weddings? Even more incredible houses? The possibilities are endless.

Who will star in The Holiday sequel?

Cameron Diaz, 52, Jude Law, 51, Kate Winslet, 49, and Jack Black, 55 made up the original all-star cast – and if there ever was a sequel, we were hoping they would all return.

The Sun’s source did state that the main talent were all “signed up and on board.”

But if Nancy Meyer’s Instagram post wasn’t heartbreaking enough, Kate Winslet has also shut down the rumours in an interview with People magazine, explaining, “I read something about that, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it.”

“I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that’s never come up.”

Jude Law’s comments are slightly less devastating, telling Comic Book the following year: “When it became apparent to us as a cast and a team that the love of this film was just ongoing and people were really making it a part of their holiday season on a regular basis, we started to sort of communicate because we were thrilled.”

“You can’t plan for something like that, it’s such a delight when you hear that that happens. When does that happen? A handful of films maybe, so we felt very lucky and it’s a beautiful thing. So, of course, that conversation comes up, ‘Is there an idea?'”

He added, “That all lands in Nancy Meyers’ lap … She’s pretty meticulous. So, she would only do it if it was a really robust idea and then it would be whether the four of us would come back. I would be curious to see what they’re all doing.”
