‘These muppets! Would have loved to have a crack at this opportunity!’ slammed one fan of the show, while another commented: ‘They just wanted a free renovation. I bet they would have done a crap job anyway.’

More agreed. ‘They obviously didn’t have any confidence in their ability. Not sorry to see them go,’ and ‘Carly and Andrew. What a pair of self-centred babies.’

Even host Jamie Durie was shocked, telling the remaining competitors, ‘I’ve never seen this. No team has ever walked out of this competition.’

The walk-out happened after the pair told a producer that they couldn’t fulfill the competition brief with such a short amount of time. They also said they didn’t sign up to renovate a luxury penthouse, they signed up for a free home renovation of their own.

Of course, it had been explained countless times that renovating the Gold Coast penthouse was simply the first task, and that two teams would be eliminated, and the rest given a ticket home to kick-off the real competition.

Standing beside her husband, who was clutching a Red Bull, Carly said: ‘I’m not a quitter, but this game has changed a lot. It’s no longer, get on House Rules and get your house renovated, it’s now get on House Rules and two teams get eliminated and then the rest get a house reno.’

‘My zone needs a lot of work to make it pop, and unfortunately in the time frames I’ve been given I haven’t been able to achieve what I want to give it that wow factor. I knew that we might have been up for elimination… we were getting eliminated anyway. I want to leave with dignity and my respect and leave on my own terms.’
