One of the biggest questions on fans minds after hearing this news is does this mean Nico Tortorella will be leaving his role as Josh on showrunner Darren Star’s hit show Younger?

The show was recently renewed for its seventh season, with season six currently airing on Stan – and no, this new venture in the zombie apocalypse won’t interfere with his role as a series regular on the comedy.

The brand new The Walking Dead series has started production in Richmond, VA, with Tortorella joining cast members Annet Mahendru (Huck) and Aliyah Royale (Iris), Alexa Mansour (Hope), Nicolas Cantu (Elton) and Hal Cumpston (Silas).

The show is produced and distributed by AMC Studios, which will premiere on AMC in 2020.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts will be the director of the new series, which is co-created by Scott Gimple and The Walking Dead writer and producer Matt Negrete. Negrete will also be the new series’ showrunner.

We’re so happy for the actor, who has been vocal with his fans about his own battles with body dysmorphia in the past.

The 29-year-old gender-fluid actor once revealed on Instagram that he has had a long battle with body dysmorphia, to the point where he was over-exercising, dieting and taking supplements to lose weight. Tortorella admits that those obsessions paralleled his past addiction to alcohol.

“My weight has fluctuated my entire life,” he wrote. “For the past couple years, I started to really get into shape. Working out sometimes twice a day, diets, supplements, hormones, etc. Remember, I am an addict.”

However, the actor has been working on it, making serious progress in the meantime.

“Over the past 6 months I have worked out less, ate more, wrote a book and have tried to love myself more and more every day; body, mind, and spirit,” they wrote. “I have days where I love my body, and days when I’m not happy; wishing I still looked like I did.”

Congratulations to Nico on his huge new role!
