A word of warning, especially for viewers who watch their TV on public transport – there is a lot of sex in Now Apocalypse. Watch the trailer for the new Stan series below.
Straight sex. Gay sex. Webcam sex. Threesomes. Lizard sex. (Don’t worry, we’ll get to that.) And all the nudity that comes with it. At times, there’s not much else.
The series from director Gregg Araki follows a group of millennials, Ulysses (Avan Jogia), Ford (Beau Mirchoff) and Carly (Kelli Berglund), who are all trying to make it in Hollywood, and although there are the usual acting classes, auditions and poolside parties, the focus is more on the trio’s personal relationships and gender-fluid sexual exploits, since their careers really aren’t going anywhere fast.
For Ulysses, that involves drifting through life in a haze of drugs and hallucinations, the latter very probably caused by the former, especially when it comes to his visions of human-sized lizards who walk the Earth and, yes, have sex.
Some will be frustrated by this genre-blurred series, which is destined to develop a cult following, if nothing else. (On Stan from Sun., Mar. 10) 3 stars
