With eight years of Better Than Yesterday under his belt, there’s no end in sight for Günsberg – who at 48, juggles TV, radio and his poddy commitments, all while raising his family with his “saint” of a wife, Audrey.

Here, the real-life Superman spills on how he does it all…

Your podcast is so popular, did you think it would become such a hit?

Who doesn’t want to go number one? However, in the first few years, it was important to me to only measure my success through feedback from listeners and not download numbers. Chasing downloads is a tough game, and if I did that it’s no different to chasing ratings in my TV or radio work.

What’s the driving force behind the podcast?

I just wanted to put into the world the kind of conversations I wish I could hear. Conversations that gave a listener hope, a moment of realisation, and might even paint a picture of how things could be one day if we choose a better path than the one we’re on now.

Who’s been your favourite guest thus far?

After over 400 guests, it’s too tough to pick a favourite, so here’s today’s top three: Shane Jenek/Courtney Act who was one of my early guests from 2014.

I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Shane since he was a showbiz-obsessed teenager at the dance school across the street from our radio station. I still get emails about that episode because, over the course of the chat, he kindly and graciously talks me through the non-straight world of sexuality, sexual fluidity and gender identity.

[Billionaire] Mike Cannon-Brookes was fundamentally life-changing for me. To hear such an incredibly successful thinker break down the astonishing economic opportunities we can benefit from if we choose meaningful climate action just blew my mind.

[Psychologist] Susan David PhD is absolutely a favourite guest. She’s been on the show a few times… to hear her voice communicate her ideas with such empathy and kindness just feels like a hug through your headphones.

Who’s your dream guest?

I can’t pick just one! Here’s three: [Historian] Yuval Noah Harari, [musician] Lizzo and getting [satirist] Blindboy back to do a return episode would be great.

How do you find time to do all that you do?

Well, for a start my wife Audrey is a saint. While my work sometimes shrinks by hours or expands by days – all at a moment’s notice – Audrey is able to adapt and just get on top of whatever needs to be done to keep everything going at home. When I’m home, I try to be as engaged as I can.

To do a second season of any TV show is incredible. This year, we’re on our 10th year of The Bachelor. What an honour to be a part of creating a show that moves and changes and adapts to what the people who love the show want to see.

I can’t wait to get back on stage with The Masked Singer (it’s almost unfair how much fun that show is to make). I love being on the team that makes both of these shows, because they are shows that bring people together.

Aside from that, between my two podcasts Better Than Yesterday and DadPod, we are very busy creating great conversations that we hope will help a lot of people. There are lots of irons in the fire for me right now! I can’t wait to share more.
