Married at First Sight may be one of Australia’s most dramatic dating shows but, on a rare few occasions, the series has proven to be the catalyst for some of reality TV’s most long-standing couples.
Despite entering the experiment with different partners, fans clocked the chemistry between season 10 stars Duncan James and Evelyn Ellis and, after weeks of speculation, the couple confirmed their post-show romance in May 2023.
Confirming the news to 9Entertainment, Evelyn shared, “We’re in a relationship. This is Duncan and Evelyn’s hard launch. It feels kind of exhilarating in a weird, freeing way.”
Since announcing their romance, the couple have shared a number of relationship milestones, but is their love story still going strong?
Are Duncan and Evelyn still together?
Over one year after they first appeared on Married at First Sight, Duncan and Evelyn are still happily together!
Celebrating their one-year anniversary in April 2024, Evelyn shared to her Instagram stories that the couple commemorated their milestone by “[having] a boogie with our friends and just got back from travelling.”
Looking to the future, Evelyn also shared that the couple hoped to start a family, writing, “We both want kids in the future” alongside a hilarious AI-generated snap of their ‘baby.’
Since their May 2023 relationship announcement, the pair have continued to share glimpses of their romance on social media, posting frequent snaps of their travels across the globe.
In October 2023, Duncan and Evelyn revealed that they had relocated to a new property in the Sydney suburb of Balmain after six months together.
“We have been dating a while now and we’ve been travelling back and forth between our apartments that were way too small for us and so, we had a discussion and we decided it was time to make the move,” Evelyn shared to Instagram
Prior to confirming their post-show romance, Yahoo Lifestyle first broke the news that Duncan and Evelyn had been “seeing each other.”
“They’re not boyfriend or girlfriend or anything like that, but they’re going on dates and telling friends they’re seeing each other,” an insider shared, adding, “Neither of them wants to rush into anything so they’re taking things slow for now, but they’re both into each other.”
Fans weren’t surprised by the news, as there had been several signs that pointed to Evelyn and Duncan starting up a romance, with Evelyn sharing a TikTok that showed Duncan with his arm around her and carrying her handbag.
In the weeks before their announcement, Duncan also posted a few snaps to Instagram alongside Evelyn’s dogs, which many fans took as a definite sign that something was blossoming between the couple.
What did Alyssa say about Duncan and Evelyn?
Following Evelyn and Duncan’s relationship confirmation, Duncan’s former Married at First Sight wife Alyssa Barmonde seemingly made her view on the new couple clear.
While on a trip to Hawaii, the Utah-born contestant replied to a fan comment on her TikTok that asked, “How do you feel about Evelyn and Duncan being together? I thought she was your friend,” with Alyssa simply responding “Rip.”
The blunt response comes after Evelyn and Duncan shared that the MAFS cast had been supportive of their relationship.
“We have been welcomed as a couple in the most positive way,” explained Evelyn to 9Entertainment.
“Obviously we gave [Evelyn’s on-screen husband] Rupert a call as well, and got the blessing from Rupert! He was very supportive as well,” Duncan added.
Six months later, Alyssa took to Instagram to share more details on her experience on the show and how she found out about the new couple, revealing that she had learned about Duncan and Evelyn’s relationship from a third party.
“I don’t expect any ex of mine to tell me they are moving on with someone else. That would be absurd, but if it’s with someone in our friend group, who we went through a life-altering experiment with, and who was supposedly ‘rooting for us,’ and they had enough ‘respect’ for Rupes to tell him. Doesn’t make sense to me,” she shared.
The former reality contestant also opened up on her behind-the-scenes experience, revealing, “There were multiple reasons I was reacting the way I was reacting. It wasn’t over nothing.”
“A reminder that MAFS had a perfect opportunity to talk about how a partner can support you when you’re having a panic attack and bring awareness to anxiety and mental illness. Instead, they edited me as a ‘psycho’…not to mention the endless manipulation from production and on-set ‘support’ to learn my triggers to use against me.”
