‘Killing Eve’ is back … but is Season 2 as good?

The award-winning spy dramedy has a lot to live up to

Previously on Killing Eve: the high-stakes cat-and-mouse game between MI6 employee Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh) and childlike but deadly assassin Villanelle (Jodie Comer) came to a head when the former confronted the latter at her Paris apartment, the season ending with Eve stabbing Villanelle. Watch the trailer for Season 2 below.

Season 2 picks up literally 30 seconds later as Eve reels from what she’s done and Villanelle staggers off, badly wounded but not dead.

Clearly there would be no show without the messed-up push and pull between the two, so it’s no spoiler to reveal the multilingual killer ultimately survives the injury, intent on rendezvousing with Eve back in London.

What makes things interesting is just what lengths Villanelle is forced to go to in her efforts to heal and remain undetected – besides MI6, shadowy organisation The Twelve is after her as well.

Oh does a great job, meanwhile, of portraying Eve’s conflict – simultaneously scared and aroused by her experiences. It’s not a surprise to discover she isn’t going to quit the spy game any time soon (despite being fired in the Season 1 finale).

With the first season a massive word-of-mouth hit last year, expectations are sky high going into Season 2. And from what we have seen so far, Killing Eve meets those. (On iView from Mon., Apr. 8) 4.5 stars
