Arriving at Graasten Townhall on July 9, King Frederik and Queen Mary stepped out of their vehicle to be greeted by hundreds of well wishers who’d lined the streets to welcome them to the Southern Denmark town for their annual summer vacation.

As the couple broke with tradition and walked the 1km trek from the city center to their summer palace, stopping to say hello and accept bouquets under the warm sun, they couldn’t wipe the big smiles off their faces and it was just because of the cheering crowds.

Just weeks after the pair marked their 20th wedding anniversary on May 14, they appear to be in the middle of a summer romance, unable to keep their hands- or eyes- off each other.

Their very public display of affection followed a few tense months where speculation was rife over the state of their marriage after Frederik was pictured enjoying a night out with socialite Genoveva Casanova while visiting Madrid in late October.

Despite a few bumps in the road which saw many question whether their fairytale was over, one of the world’s leading body language experts believes that whatever rift and tension that had come between the couple has vanished, as the pair looked “radiant together” and “very much in tune” as they arrived for their summer holiday.

“They did it!” Dr Louise Mahler exclusively tells WHO.  “There is touch, their footwork is in sync with each other, there is eye contact, laughter, and an open unprotected physical presence, which tells us that trust has been restored between Queen Mary and King Frederik.”

Casanova was quick to come out and deny anything untoward had happened between her and the then Crown Prince when images of their visit to an art gallery and restaurant were published in Hola magazine.

In an unfortunate timing for Mary, she was forced to put on a brave face and carry on with her public duties as the Danish royals were in the middle of hosting Spain’s King Felipe and Queen Letizia on an official visit.

Over the next few months, the scrutiny the pair were under only intensified as Queen Margrethe used her annual New Year’s speech to abdicate her throne, passing the crown onto Frederik and Mary. Gossip hit fever pitch in April when online rumors spread that the pair had their official portraits taken separately.

“Was this photoshopped?” one social media user asked when the palace published the image of the pair on social media. “I mean it looks like they were photographed separately then put together?”

Now, with their relationship back on track, Mary and Frederik can relax and enjoy each other’s company as they host their wider family at the private summer retreat.

“These pictures make one breathe a sigh of relief,” Mahler adds. “I have no doubt that there has been enormous work on their relationship to get back to this point, as in their public appearances over the past few months there has been definite signs of tension between the couple – this has now vanished.”

With Mary having spent just over 6 months in her newly elevated role, Mahler believes that the Australian-born royal is doing a fine job and becoming a confident and capable queen.

“Our Mary is one of a kind, she is magnificent!” she says.
