After revealing to the world in October 2018 that she had been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis— a condition which attacks the central nervous system and affects the brain, spinal cord and optic nerves— Selma Blair has kept her followers in the loop, regularly sharing updates on her treatment – one of which has caused the beloved actress to lose her hair.
Taking to Instagram last night, the Cruel Intentions star revealed she’d shaved her head after finishing an intense round of a radical treatment which left her immune system compromised.

“Today is a banner day,” Blair wrote alongside a photo where she is standing tall with her Alinker bike (a walk assist bike). “I am being discharged from the care of an incredible team of nurses and techs and a visionary Dr. who believes in my healing as much as I do. This has been a process. And will continue to be one.
I am immunocompromised for next three months at least. So no kisses please. I wanted to make sure all complications here were my private space. And we got through brilliantly.”
Earlier, the 47-year-old posted a birthday message to her adorable son, Arthur, detailing his painful birth, and thanking him for cutting her hair before she decided to shave it off.
“I slept two hours. There is a pain. In my head. In my throat where the tears start. I want to smell him. Tell him I am so proud of him. Hold him. And I will. Just not on his birthday. Which is today. It was a painful induced labor. He was weeks late according to doctors. I felt fine. He wouldn’t listen. And there was still fluid. But I was pressured , and agreed. Defeated,” the mum-of-one began.
“And now my kid can cut his moms hair and make jokes and assure me just by being him that I am good enough. Even if we aren’t together for this birthday. Which makes tears well, I know he is happy with dad, dancing and playing on the beach later today. What more could I really ask for. Happy birthday. My son. I love you oceans, mama #arthursaintbleick.”
This month, the Legally Blonde star opened up to PEOPLE magazine about her horrific illness, revealing she experiences “constant weakness and fatigue” and spasmodic symptoms which leave her with little control over her facial expressions and voice. She also said that while she “feels like throwing up all the time” (her MS has affected her appetite and diaphragm reflexes) Selma still celebrates the wins!
“I celebrate everything! If I take a shower, if I put on eyeliner.”
