‘Get me out of here!’ Those are the panicked words of 60 Minutes reporter Tara Brown as she is forced to face her worst fear – and the fear of many other people around the world – by venturing to one of the most dangerous places imaginable.

‘YOU ARE GOING TO DIE SCREAMING!’ – WATCH THE HORRIFYING FOOTAGE OF SNAKE ISLAND, BRAZIL, BELOW

Going to the Brazilian outpost known as ‘Snake Island’, Tara admits she was ‘freaked out’ at the prospect of dying from snake bite on the reputedly god-forsaken island, which is known to be seething with thousand’s of the country’s most dangerous snakes. And that reaction is not at all surprising, as she’s warned before stepping ashore that ‘You are going to die screaming’.

The island is usually supposed to be off limits to humans, having been dubbed ‘the most dangerous location on the planet’.

‘These snakes are five times more venomous than their mainland cousins,’ says Tara. ‘I was scared – the vegetation is so thick, you don’t know where you put your hands. It’s very frightening.’

Far from emergency medical help and carpeted with very high densities of the angry reptiles, ‘Snake Island’ is also claimed to be the site of hidden treasure, according to local legend.

But there really is something of great importance there. Home to Brazil’s deadly Golden Lancehead viper, the island is a source of venom that’s now apparently being used in groundbreaking medications. And that’s why it’s become a place of huge scientific importance.
