The 2024 Formula 1 season has certainly been one packed with headline-making moments, but did we expect another Australian to join the grid with one race to go? Yeah, we can’t say that was on the bingo card.
Regardless of the *strange* timing, Jack Doohan’s arrival at Alpine isn’t a total shock, with the 21-year-old Queenslander originally set to take over from Esteban Ocon at the start of 2025.
While he may not be joining the championship fight in Abu Dhabi, fans are still eager to learn more about the latest Aussie to climb into an F1 seat.
Who is Jack Doohan?
Before taking over from Esteban, Jack Doohan joined the Alpine Formula 1 Team as their reserve driver following his successful career in the Formula 2 and Formula 3 Championship.
Born and raised in the Gold Coast, the Aussie driver began his motor-racing career in 2012, with a then nine-year-old Jack being gifted his first-ever go-kart from F1 legend Michael Schumacher. After winning the Australian Karting Championship in 2015 and 2016, Jack made the move to the UK to start his career in the British F4 Championship.
Racing as a member of the Red Bull Junior Team between 2018 and 2021, Jack made the switch to the Alpine Academy for the 2022 Formula 2 season and following his move to Formula 1, Jack became the first Alpine Academy driver to be promoted to Formula 1.

Yes! Jack Doohan is the son of five-time MotoGP World Champion Mick Doohan.
While they may race in different disciplines, the father-son duo have appeared together on track several times, with Jack and Mick most recently racing alongside one another in an exhibition lap of Albert Park at the 2024 Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix.

While very little is known about Jack’s life away from the track, it has been reported that the Aussie driver is currently in a relationship with Ebony Zippora Gold.
Although neither Jack nor Ebony has commented on their romance, in 2022, Ebony shared a handful of videos to TikTok that showed her and Jack on holiday – giving fans a vague confirmation that the pair are in fact a couple.
