As the Paris 2024 Olympics kick-off, all eyes begin to turn to our Aussie athletes and their quest for gold.

The Olympics is a fame-making event, sometimes turning athletes into globally recognised stars overnight.

Australian swimmer and former Olympic champion Libby Trickett is certainly one of those who knows a thing or two about being in the spotlight.

Now 39, she was part of Australia’s swimming dream team in the 2000s, winning gold at the 2003, 2008 and 2012 Olympics and, for a time, holding the world record for the 100-metre women’s freestyle.

Along with her sporting achievements, her sunny nature and megawatt smile made her a household name in Australia – so much so that when she married fellow swimmer Luke Trickett at Taronga Zoo in Sydney in April 2007, tight security was in place to shield the pair from waiting paparazzi.

The Tricketts went on to have two daughters, born in 2015 and 2018, before Trickett announced her retirement in 2019.

The following year, she made a surprise comeback before hanging up her swimming cap for good in 2013.

Since then, the Tricketts have had another two children – most recently son Alfie, who was born on May 17 last year – and moved on to other life ventures.

But Libby Trickett is as popular and beloved by the Australian public as she ever was.

In recent years she’s garnered a loyal following on social media and via her Being Sportish podcast as she dispenses wisdom about parenthood, self-belief and being a woman in sport.
