From the fiery realms of Mount Doom to the grandeur of Númenor, Season 1 of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power plunged viewers into the depths of Middle Earth’s Second Age, exploring the rich tapestry of J.R.R. Tolkien’s world long before the events of The Hobbit.

Expanding on the epic lore, the first chapter of the saga, released in 2022, delved deeper into the origin stories of some of Tolkien’s most infamous characters while also welcoming a new generation of leaders into The Lord of the Rings universe.

Now, the drama has returned for a second instalment, and fantasy fans can’t wait to see the next chapter in the quest to protect Middle Earth.

What is Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power about?

Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power dives into the rich tapestry of Middle-earth’s history in the Second Age – a pivotal era long before the events of The Lord of the Rings trilogy.

The first series centres on the world-building of Middle Earth before being plunged into darkness and despair by the recently unmasked Dark Lord Sauron as he attempts to forge his dark power into the three Elven rings of power.

While the show may have provided the backstory to some of the original trilogy’s most well-known characters, Rings of Power also introduces a range of new characters into the lore of Middle Earth, such as the ambitious Elven princess Galadriel and the enigmatic Halbrand, a mysterious man with ties to the larger conflict.

While they may not have led their armies into battle, Middle Earth’s youngest leaders, Nori Brandyfoot, Theo, and Kemen – played by Markella Kavenagh, Tyroe Muhafidin, and Leon Wadham – each made their mark on viewers, with their courage and determination playing a pivotal role in propelling the story forward.

“After watching the first season, I was able to take a step back and see how Kemen plays into the entire world, so I could finally understand how his actions fit in with every other character,” Wadham told WHO ahead of the Rings of Power Season 2 premiere.
