Is Dance Moms returning?

In exciting news for Dance Moms fans, the franchise is rumoured to be returning for another season!

While a release date has yet to be confirmed, in February 2023, Abby Lee Miller shared a casting call to Instagram revealing that she would be searching for talent for season nine of Dance Moms at her Are You Ready Dance Convention in Miami.

Despite Abby’s announcement, we’ve still yet to hear any further news on the production of season nine, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as soon as more information is available.

How many seasons of Dance Moms are there?

First launching in 2011, the original Dance Moms series consists of eight seasons and over 220 episodes.

The franchise also had several spin-off series, including two seasons of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, one season of Dance Moms: Miami, and one season of Raising Asia.

Why isn’t Nia in the Dance Moms reunion?

While the reunion saw the return of many of the OG dancers, season one star Nia Sioux was noticeably absent from the one-off special.

Explaining her reasoning to TikTok, Nia revealed, “Hate to break it to you guys, but the reason is quite simple – I just really didn’t want to do it… and that’s a good enough answer and a good enough reason.”

Also absent from the reunion were ALDC favourites Maddie and Mackenzie Ziegler who, according to their mum Melissa Gioni, chose not to participate to protect their mental health.

Speaking on her Instagram stories ahead of the reunion, Mackenzie further added that their absence “had nothing to do with the girls” and that they both “didn’t really want to go back in time.”
