In 2024, video game fans and post-apocalyptic viewers alike are being treated – yet again – to a TV adaptation of one of the best-selling global video game franchises, Fallout.
Set in the future post-apocalyptic Los Angeles, the series is an original story based on the original games that now form part of the canon Fallout universe.
After leaving us all on an epic cliffhanger, fans are counting down the days until the latest expansion of the Fallout universe, and with Season 2 now *finally* on the way, here’s everything we know so far about Fallout Season 2.
What is Fallout about?
Warning: Spoilers ahead!
Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have.
Set 200 years after the apocalypse, “the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind — and are shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them,” or so the synopsis reads. Basically, if you loved The Last of Us – and didn’t we all? – you’re almost certain to love Fallout.
While the first season took us through the character and world-building of the Fallout universe, the final episodes hinted at another chapter of the story, with Lucy setting off from California for New Vegas.
After discovering the truth about her father Hank and the real story behind Vault-Tec, Lucy sets off with The Ghoul to help track down her newly armoured father outside the confines of a desolate Los Angeles.
Despite the finale leaving many unanswered questions and potential plotlines open, their arrival in New Vegas hints directly at the events of the Fallout: New Vegas game – leaving some fans to wonder whether Season 2 will confirm which of the game’s multiple endings is considered canon.
Who is cast in Fallout?
Ella Purnell stars as Lucy, an optimistic Vault Dweller with an all-American can-do spirit; and Aaron Moten plays Maximus, a young soldier who serves in a militaristic faction called Brotherhood of Steel.
Walton Goggins plays The Ghoul, who survives the wasteland as a Bounty Hunter; and Kyle MacLaughlin plays Overseer Hank, the Overseer of Vault 33 and Lucy’s father.
The series cast includes Moisés Arias (The King of Staten Island), Sarita Choudhury (Homeland), Michael Emerson (Person of Interest), Leslie Uggams (Deadpool) and Frances Turner (The Boys).
Joining them are Dave Register (Heightened), Zach Cherry (Severance), Johnny Pemberton (Ant-Man), Rodrigo Luzzi (Dead Ringers), Annabel O’Hagan (Law & Order: SVU), and Xelia Mendes-Jones (The Wheel of Time).
When is the Fallout Season 2 release date?
Although production is currently underway on Fallout Season 2 in Los Angeles, we unfortunately don’t have an official release date just yet.
While we may have a little while longer to wait, based on current timelines, it has been widely reported that fans can expect to see Fallout return to our screens for Season 2 in mid-2026.
