Since first hitting the big screen almost 25 years ago, Scary Movie has grown to become a cult favourite film for both horror and comedy film fans alike.
Consisting of five films, the satirical slasher made a comeback in 2013 and in exciting news, it has been revealed that the franchise will be returning for another reboot.
According to Variety, the film will be the first collaboration between Paramount Studios and Miramax, with Miramax financing the film and Paramount managing distribution.
The production company are also reported to be partnering with Fast and Furious producer Neal H. Morris on film, with Variety reporting that filming for the sixth Scary Movie film will commence in late 2024.
What is Scary Movie about?
While each film in the Scary Movie franchise has a different storyline, they are all centred around the comedic parody of several renowned horror movies.
In the first Scary Movie film, a group of teenagers accidentally kill a man with their car and one year after dumping the body, they are suddenly targeted by the series’ antagonist Ghostface, setting a comedically gruesome chain of events.
The film parodies scenes from cult-favourite horror films Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer, with the subsequent sequels satirising The Exorcist, The Ring, War of the Worlds, The Grudge, and Paranormal Activity.
Who is the cast of the Scary Movie reboot?
While production on the film has reportedly been confirmed, details surrounding the cast of the latest Scary Movie film have yet to be revealed.
Following the absence of stars Anna Farris and Regina Hall in the 2013 sequel Scary Movie 5, some fans have begun to speculate that the latest instalment in the franchise could see the duo make their long-awaited return.
When is the Scary Movie reboot coming out?
Although it has yet to be officially confirmed, Variety has reported that production on the sixth Scary Movie film will take place in late 2024, with the film to be released in 2025.
