Well, Yellowstone fans, Season 5 has *officially* wrapped up, and let’s just say it went out with a bang. Whether you were gasping at the twists, shedding a tear over the emotional moments, or just trying to figure out how the Dutton family was going to survive another round of drama, there’s no denying this season in Montanna was a wild ride.
From John Dutton’s unpredictable future to the fate of the ranch itself, the stakes have never been higher, and while we process those jaw-dropping moments, let’s take a look at some burning questions that have everyone buzzing.
What’s next for the Duttons? Will Kevin Costner be back? What can we expect from the next chapter of this iconic series? Grab your boots, because here’s everything we know about Yellowstone season six.
Is Kevin Costner leaving Yellowstone?
As head of the Dutton ranch, fans had long been contemplating whether Kevin Costner would actually depart the series. Despite fans campaigning for his return, Costner confirmed that he would not be reprising the role of John Dutton in the second part of Season 5 – and boy, did they make that decision clear in the first episode of the season.
“I want to reach out to let you know that after this long year and a half of working on Horizon and doing all the things that’s [sic] required, and thinking about Yellowstone, that beloved series that I love, that I know you love, I just realised that I’m not going to be able to continue Season 5B or into the future,” he wrote to Instagram in June 2024.
Ahead of the season premiere, Costner’s on-screen son Luke Grimes opened up about the next chapter of the Dutton’s story without their patriarch, telling Forbes, “Him not coming back felt like, ‘Okay, we’re going to have to land this plane now for real.'”
“I think the patriarch leaving was always going to be a part of the story. That’s always where it was headed like, what do these kids do? What does this family do when their rock is gone?”
Is there a Season 6 of Yellowstone?
After season 5, Part 2 hit screens on November 12, 2024, viewers were already looking to the future of the Dutton family for a potential sixth season.
Despite the global fan fervour for the series, as of the Season 5 finale, Yellowstone has yet to be officially greenlit for Season 6.
In early 2024, Paramount announced that Season 6 of the series had been shelved in favour of the franchise’s upcoming spin-off The Madison, with the production company confirming that Michele Pfeiffer will be leading the ensemble cast.
While the series may have not yet been formally renewed, multiple publications have reported that talks are allegedly underway to revive Yellowstone for one final season, so we’ll be sure to keep you posted on any news!
