What Is Wakefield About?
Wakefield is a new Aussie drama that, depending on where the series takes it, could be the Aussie equivalent of Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal. Created by Kristen Dunphy, and directed by Jocelyn Moorhouse (Stateless, The Dressmaker) and Kim Mordaunt (The Rocket), it’s a gripping psychological mystery set in the Blue Mountains region.
Wakefield‘sstory follows a psych nurse at Wakefield, Blue Mountains named Nik Katira (Rudi Dharmalingam) as he slowly loses his grip on reality and his sanity – and as the show hopes to answer the pressing question on the ward’s and soon our lips: why?
“Kristen Dunphy has created a complex, thrilling world in Wakefield that will grip audiences as much as it will challenge them,” Head of ABC of Scripted Content Sally Riley explained of the series. “We’re beyond excited to bring this multilayered story to the screen.”
Who Stars In ABC’s Wakefield?
ABC’s Wakefield stars British actor Rudi Dharmalingam (Dark Money, Electric Dreams) as Nik, an exceptionally good nurse who has a god-like ability to connect with people but begins to lose his grip on reality and fast.
Wakefield also features Geraldine Hakewill (Wanted, Miss Fisher’s Modern Murder Mysteries) and Mandy McElhinney (House of Hancock, Bad Mothers), Harriet Dyer, Harry Greenwood, Ryan Corr, Felicity Ward, Kim Gyngell, Dan Wyllie, Sam Simmons, and Bessie Holland.

While Wakefield will debut on ABC iView on the 2nd of April, the new hit Aussie show will begin airing weekly on the ABC from the 18th of April.
Where Was Wakefield filmed?
ABC’s Wakefield was filmed in Sydney, the Southern Highlands, and Blue Mountains.
“Given the recent bushfire devastation that the Blue Mountains and parts of the Southern Highlands have experienced, we’re delighted that this production will help to bring welcome investment in the areas and help a number of local businesses during filming,” Head of Screen NSW, Grainne Brunsdon said.
