In January this year the Australian TV legend revealed that she had been diagnosed with bladder cancer 12 months earlier.
“I discovered I had bladder cancer. This then spread to my hip bone which fractured, and then I almost died from loss of blood due to an ulcer in my throat,” she told the Daily Telegraph at the time. “Despite all this, I am still here, as the old song goes.”
She later revealed on A Current Affair in March that the cancer had spread to her thigh.
Over her long career in TV, Frances starred in shows including Home and Away, Sons and Daughters, The Young Doctor.
She also presented popular game show The Weakest Link from 2001-2002.
Frances is survived by her son, Lawrence.
