Jennifer Hawkins: ‘I’m not a role model’

The former Miss Universe reveals the key to her happiness – and it’s not a dress size

Jennifer Hawkins has built an empire on her famous body and girl-next-door good looks, but the Australian model-turned-businesswoman says she is a reluctant poster girl for championing body confidence in women.

Speaking to WHO, the 34-year-old tequila, fake-tanning and real-estate mogul, who once posed naked and un-airbrushed on the cover of marie claire magazine to raise awareness for an eating-disorder charity, says she doesn’t feel any pressure to be a role model for positive body image.

“I don’t feel pressure to promote [body confidence], no,” Hawkins tells WHO. “I think for women, it’s about what you eat and what you put into your body and how you feel energy-wise.” She added, “Personally, if I eat healthily and have a good balance with work and my social life, I’m just happier.”

The beauty also credits drinking water for keeping her skin glowing in her 30s. “I drink two-and-a-half litres a day,” she says. “It’s nice to have a bit of flavour in there too.”

Blissfully married to her long-time love, builder Jake Wall, with whom she owns a tequila business and luxury building company, J Group, Hawkins admits to trading running and arduous workouts for calming exercises like walking, Pilates and daily meditation now she’s in her 30s.

“Meditation has been a big help with being grounded and making better choices,” she said. “Being really conscious when you’re with people and being present –
I think that’s been key.”

Since announcing the end of her 12-year partnership with Australian retail giant Myer back in August (she retires from the role this month), Hawkins said she is enjoying focusing on her other businesses and spending time with her “best friend” Jake and her family.

“I’m just enjoying working with the companies I have but also supporting Jake and having a really nice work-life balance,” she says. “His business has really taken off and it’s nice to be proud of that and be a partner.”

“I come home and cook dinners and hang out with friends and live a well-rounded life.”
