Since joining the Jungle as the host of I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in 2015, Julia Morris has become a regular feature in some of Australia’s most beloved television programmes.
While she may be best known for her on-screen antics, the 55-year-old has also been open about her life away from the camera, speaking openly about her divorce process from her husband of 16 years.
Is Julia Morris married?
In 2021, Julia Morris confirmed her split from her husband, British comedian Dan Thomas, after 16 years of marriage.
Speaking to Stellar Magazine, the beloved host reflected on the latter years of her marriage, explaining that the process of her divorce allowed her to reconnect with herself.
“I have become an Olympic medallist in running him down but, to be honest, I have been trying to stop doing that because I don’t want to let him into my life at all anymore. I’m free.”
The couple, who married in Las Vegas in 2005, have not divulged why they decided to split, however, Julia previously revealed that she felt her marriage had changed over the years.
“Let’s just say I wasn’t married to the person I thought I was.”
Two years on from her split, Julia further reflected on her personal journey within her marriage, sharing that she realised that the couple were “not necessarily growing in the same direction.'”
“Once you’ve got that in your headspace, the other person starts to become quite a pest. I think that’s where patience starts to wear down to, ‘I’m not living like this. How is this an example for my girls that this is an okay life to lead? No thanks’,” she told the Australian Women’s Weekly.
“How do I want to live the second half of my life? I don’t really want someone else’s instructions. So … see ya!”
Does Julia Morris have children?
Julia shares two daughters, Ruby, 17, and Sophie, 15, with ex-husband Dan Thomas.
Speaking to Australian Women’s Weekly, Julia praised her two teenage daughters for their tenacity and resilience while coming of age in the midst of COVID lockdowns.
“They’re not arseholes, for the want of a better expression… I don’t think it’s teenagers that are tricky, I think it’s that adults don’t really know how to parent them or speak to them or how to trust in their decisions and observations of life.”
During the 2020 lockdown, Julia also shared that she had paid tribute to her daughters through two tattoos, with one being a copy of two-year-old Ruby’s drawing and the other being three snails drawn by youngest daughter Sophie.
