Imitation may be a form of flattery, but Kim Kardashian West is in hot water after being accused of stealing design ideas from the likes of Rei Kawakubo and Demna Gvasalia for her own children’s line.
Earlier this week, Instagram account Diet Prada called out the 37-year-old reality star for copying, comparing looks from her clothing line, TheKidsSupply, to the original works.
“@kimkardashian ! Just when we thought you may have rocked the glitter better than Bey, you had to go and rip an extremely limited edition @commedesgarcons x Kosho & Co souvenir jacket for your @thekidssupplyline AND that one-of-a-kind custom sequin @vetements_official dress made specially for North,” Diet Prada captioned the post. “Great message for the little ones!”
The account, known for blasting fashion copycats, started with the mocking title of “Kim des Garcons” before showing side-by-side images of Kardashian West’s mini version with the original Comme des Garçons jacket (designed by Kawakubo) bearing an eagle and the words, “Live Free With Strong Will” printed on it.
Other pictures showed Kardashian West in a sequined gown designed by Gvasalia, with her 4-year-old daughter wearing a miniature version of the gown that was made by Vetements.
A rep for Kids Supply told New York Post‘s Page Six that the designs were recreated for kids as a “homage” to the original designers, even naming the pieces after their creators. (A rep for Kim Kardashian West did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.)
“The idea behind Kids Supply is to give people the opportunity to purchase things that would never be available for children otherwise,” the rep said. “We decided to release the Demna dress after making one on our own for North because it got such a great reaction and an overflow of people wanting it for their own children. We named it the Demna dress to pay homage to him as it was one of Kim and North’s favorite mommy and me moments.”
They added, “The Rei jacket was a mixture of some our favorite souvenir jacket art. We have been collecting for years and have archive of them. We named it the Rei Jacket out of the utmost respect for her.”
he rep also told the outlet 100 percent of the proceeds from both pieces will be donated to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, which Kardashian West herself confirmed on her Instagram Story Wednesday.
The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star and KKW Beauty mogul also revealed to her followers that the pint-sized pieces were inspired by their respective original designers — and by North and 2-year-old Saint‘s favorite items in their parents’ closets.
“We took our kids’ favorite pieces, we remade them, and from them we’re donating 100 percent of the profits to the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles,” she said, showing off both products.

Kardashian West and husband Kanye West dropped TheKidsSupply in May. Sticking to muted shades of black, olive green and white with touches of red and pale pink, the collection includes a mix of everything from comfy track pants and graphic tees to belts and dainty dresses.
“For the past few years Kanye and I have made almost all of our kids clothes and we have collaborated on a new kids line!” the reality star said in a tweet. “TheKidsSupply has been what we’ve been working on for a long time. I’m so excited about this!”
