After 9 years of acne the Alpha H Liquid Gold was my last resort before Roaccutane

The money I could have saved!

If I could have told my teenage self one thing, it would be to “stop stressing about those spots, no one’s noticing… but for the love of god, save yourself the stress, and grab a bottle of the Alpha H Liquid Gold right this second”.

To be completely transparent, since hitting puberty my skin has seen every bump and blackhead possible. We are talking acne breakouts, chemical burns, a severely disrupted skin barrier (thanks to a few viral TikTok products), and some serious, what felt like unwavering scarring. The royal flush, if you will.

Familiar with the confidence killer that is acne, I totally get the Friday night freak outs.

Blessed with the best of bumps…I have explored high and low, from dermo appointments, prescribed medications, to emptying my pockets on cleansers and serums promising to “clear skin in one use”, you name it!

Assigning myself as the skincare know-it-all, you can only imagine the disbelief I felt waking up to healthier appearing skin following just one application of the Alpha H Liquid Gold.

Watching as my skin has transformed from irritated to oh-so smooth, this is one exfoliant that can’t be kept in the vault.

So, if you are at your wits end, please let the Alpha H Liquid Gold be your final skincare investment, you won’t be sorry!

What’s so special about Alpha H Liquid Gold?

The Alpha H Liquid Gold replaced four of my skincare products, addressing my discolouration, uneven skin texture and moisture loss all at once.

Alpha H Liquid Gold materials and size

Size

The product comes available to shop in two sizes, a 30ml and 100ml bottle.

Key ingredients

Formulated into a lightweight non-aromatic clear liquid, the Alpha H Liquid Gold is completely mess free.

Actively accelerating the skin renewal process, Glycolic Acid ( 5 per cent) dissolves the bonds that hold dead skin cells together, thereby stimulating the production of collagen. Additionally, the acid works to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and open pores, while also smoothing uneven texture.

Protecting the skin from environmental elements are Silk Proteins. This moisture binding protein is particularly important in helping to prevent water loss.

Another key ingredient that works to regulate the skin’s production of melanin is Liquorice Root Extract. For the girls struggling with hyperpigmentation, I think you will be particularly fond of this one.

How to use Alpha H Liquid Gold

Depending on your skin’s sensitivity, there are a couple of ways to use the exfoliant.

Sensitive skin (this is how I use the treatment)

  1. Wash your face with a cleanser, and pat dry (hot tip – leave the skin slightly damp*)
  2. Shake the bottle to evenly disperse ingredients
  3. On clean hands, pour two to four drops out onto palms
  4. Gently tap palms together to cover area of both hands
  5. Immediately pat onto skin – start on cheeks, then forehead, chin, and use the leftovers on your neck
  6. Leave the exfoliant to do its thing for one to two minutes
  7. Finish by applying your favourite serum and moisturiser (serum is optional)

*I find that leaving the face slightly damp allows for extra hydration.

Normal skin (and those who prefer a deeper exfoliation)

Follow steps one through five, and instead of applying a moisturiser or serum, you can leave the exfoliant to continue the renewal process over night.

Adding a serum and moisturiser simply means the skin does not continue to experience a high level of exfoliation from the active ingredients throughout the night.

Before and after

Though these images have been taken two years apart, I have consistently struggled with acne since I was 14 years old (the journey has almost been as rough as my fake tan experiences). It’s also important to note that I am wearing a spot of concealer on my upper cheeks in the right image.

Results from our test

Before using the Alpha H Liquid Gold treatment, visible texture and pigmentation were some of my larger skincare woes.

Now, and following three months of applying the exfoliant twice weekly, my skin is significantly more smooth and even. Unlike other chemical exfoliants that left my skin feeling dry and irritated, I have woken up to skin that feels like my pre-acne days.

The speedy skin renewal process has been the biggest success of all. Not immune to the weekly pimple appearance, I found that the rapid exfoliation of dead skin cells a gamechanger in the intensity of the spot.

It should be noted that though I have now figured out a treatment cycle that works best for my skin, in the first weeks I slightly overdid it by applying four times a week, ultimately leaving my skin feeling dry and slightly sensitive.

To avoid any sensitivity, and to achieve the best results, I found that applying the product twice a week or three times at a maximum be most appropriate.

What do the experts think about Alpha H Liquid Gold?

“Unlike traditional exfoliants that can be abrasive…Alpha H’s Liquid Gold relies on the active ingredient…glycolic acid, to perform the work – revealing brighter, more radiant skin” says celebrity aesthetic physician Dr. Joseph Hkeik at the Saint Clinic Group.

In Dr. Hkeik’s opinion, “liquid exfoliants can be used as frequently as once a day, provided the formulation is suitable for your skin type and tolerance level”.

Overall, is Alpha H Liquid Gold worth it?

When it comes to a new product taking a permanent position in my skincare routine, it has to have some serious benefit, I’m not looking to overload my routine (sensitive skin things). So, considering the Alpha H Liquid Gold‘s long standing spot in my medicine cabinet, I can safely say that it is 100 per cent worth it.

Using the best of clean and simple ingredients, this chemical exfoliant “accelerates the skin renewal” process without any negative side effects (when used appropriately).
