Looking For A New Lippy?

You'll Love These…

Lip colour in one form or another has been en vogue for centuries. Ancient Egyptians used pigment to give their lips a splash of colour and Queen Elizabeth I was well known for her white painted face and blood red lips.

However, the first push up lipstick didn’t arrive on the scene until 1915 when a Frenchman called Maurice Levy invented a metal dispenser with a lever at the side that pushed the stick of lipstick up and out.

According to marketwatch.com, the global lipstick market in 2018 was valued at US$6600 million. Much of that might belong to Kylie Jenner whose cosmetics company Kylie Cosmetics has made the 22-year-old the youngest self-made billionaire ever.

Needless to say, we love our lippy, so which brand, type and colour is best?

#5 Revlon Ultra HD Gel LipColor

Revlon Ultra HD Gel Lip Colour in Sand is the perfect nude and if you prefer a soft creamier lipstick, this won’t dry out your lips.

You might need to reapply after 3-4 hours but with an affordable price tag and a semi-shine it’s ideal for wearing to work.

One reviewer says, “Sand is a fitting name for this colour, it is a sheer nude that leans toward the pink side. There’s a slight shimmer and just a hint of gloss. The scent is slightly sweet and reminds me of an sweet artificial caramel, I actually enjoy it. This will now be my go to nude!”

Let Me Dream (pictured above), is a coral pink shade in their Rouge Satin range. This moisturising lipstick is infused with grape seed and apricot kernel oil to keep your lips smooth and colourful all day.

Devi Natalia says, “This is my first satin rouge purchase. To my surprise, the packaging is made of light plastic (it looks heavy and metal like from online). The formula is creamy and buildable. One swipe is kinda sheer, two swipe will give full pigmentation. The shade is gorgeous for light skin tone. It’s peachy pink that doesnt look neon.”

#1 Charlotte Tilbury

Welcome to your new favourite lipstick. Hot Lips 2 is a refillable range of lipsticks by Charlotte Tilbury that come packaged in a fabulously stylish casing.

The matte formula goes on like a dream, has a chocolatey scent and really does stay on all day. Hot Lips comes in 10 shades including a hot red (above) called Patsy Red which is an homage to Tilbury’s mum, Patsy!

If you have dry lips it’s worth investing in the Lip Conditioner. Soothing shea butter, aloe vera and hyaluronic acid will help moisturise your lips under the matte coverage.

One reviewer says, “I’ve been looking for a gorgeous Hollywood red lipstick for a long, long time. I’m not an expert in make-up, so ended up with a lot that looked pink outside the shop, or smudged horrendously. This is a gorgeous not-too-bright-red that does not look pink outside, and does not smudge (unless eating really smudgeable things like English crumpets!) Looks lovely, feels lovely, CT is a gem.”
